Hi there folks,

Been trying to get Mutant Rancor DNA with no luck at all. I have +32 to mask sent in clothing but Im wondering if there are any foods that would help and do they stack?

Also, Ive tried crawling, driveing, running, and combinations of the above... dose anyone have a method that works?

Thanks so much in advance!

Jawa beer gives you a bonus to mask scent. I haven't had much luck either getting mutant rancor dna but others here have said they do get it.

The trick I used when I did BE as a holo profession (and then kept it a while to play with it) was to lure the rancors out..

Basically just walk towards the one farthest out from the group untill it agros.. then run away. DO NOT attack back at all just hit peaceasap. They will follow you about 70 to 80m. Be armored and buffed.. and let them hit you and when you get aroub 70 to 80m from their original spot they will stop.. at that point just run right towards them and hit sample.

You will need to be WALKING not running when you approach the point where they will stop following you otherwise the lag in the game will put you out of range to start your sample.

I got 21 samples in about 1.5 hours using this method. I had Exploration 4 and +25 mask scent clothing at the time. I could get mask scent to work if I crawled up to them but I found it slowed me down considerably.

I forgot to mention.. if you get more than 1 agro just keep running away till you get them separated and start working on just one of them. Once you hit sample they wont attack till the sample finishes, if at all.

Pulling them away from the lair doesn't work any more with the new pathing changes and distance that a creature will remain aggro. If you are within "reach" where the creature can inflict damage, it may follow 500-800 meters or occaisionally more.

Once the creature stops attacking, and you mask scent, turn and try to follow it, the creature will take 2 or 3 steps back towards the lair, encounter a piece of grass that is just too large to step over, and thanks to the new pathing code that prevents a creature from "hanging" on harvesters, etc, will warp the 800 meters back to the lair in a single step.

Mask scent clothing, jawa beer, unequip your weapon, and crawl at 64 and 32 meters from the mob, or until you are within 30 meters of the MOST DISTANT mob. Stop immediately any time you are scented, and stand up in place (to be ready to run if you get aggro from a mob moving and detecting you - the one that broke mask will rarely attack if you remain still, but others that cross the distance threshold for the scent detect check may.) Onceyou get close enough, stand still unless you have to move, and keep mask scent up while you sample. You can call your bike and use a dismount/sample/mount macro to sample, as long as you do not move much with the bike, and that will increase your chances of getting away if aggroed.

All of this in combination and you may be able to get samples, Mutant Rancors are just plain difficult to get with the current state of pathing, mask scent and aggro, so you may simply have to deal with the difficulty.

Another useful thing is tounequip your weapon, and put a very low-level pet on "Guard". If you get aggro, let thepet slow it down while you run away. With the current state of nerfage for "invalid pets", this is about the best use for one that has had its stats "adjusted" that I cansuggest. The pet will undoubtedly die, but you will be far enough out of range to avoid aggro in most cases by the time it does so. (usingBlap biscuits helps here, if I recall corrrectly, as they will boost the pet's health enough to take afull-damage hit from a mutant rancor and survive to take a second one.) Call the pet and put it on guard only after you are in range to take your samples.

As it stands right now, these are such a pain to get that many BE's simply don't bother, but they do result in some spectacular pets.

Good luck

Went hunting on Dath last night and ran into some mutant rancors. I was more than a little apprehensive about attempting to sample these since we were soooooo far away from a clone center and were having a good hunting run, but what the heck, I had a CH there to protect my fragile butt so I *had*to give it a shot.

I threw up mask scent (standard issue Scout version) and I have ZERO mask scent in my clothing and made my way slowly (ie, crawling) toward the first one. At 40m he detected and came running, and we had to take him down the hard way.

Mutant #2... threw up mask scent, slowly started in for him and again, at about 40m same as above.

.....I am still alive at this point, so I just cannot leave it alone....

Mutant #3... this time I ran about 80m out, all the way around till I got behind him and again made my way slowly toward him. Sample success. I got 3 samples out of him before he attacked.

Mutant #4... he popped on a ledge, so I went around (again, about 80m out) and came up the hill behind him (again slowly) and got 3 more samples before this one died from being oversampled.

All in all... a very successful sampling adventure
