Thread: I'm A New BE (FINALLY)
After two weeks of work, sorry I'm not a power gamer, I'll reach Bio Engineer tonight. My question to all of my wonderful profession mates is this...
Do I need to pick up some surveying skills in order to be able to progress easier through the trees or do most of the things I need come from the animals themselves? Guess I'm just excited about finally reaching my dream profession (now let's just hope it's been worth all the excitement). ![]()
Also will I be able to sample the DNA from any creature or only certain ones? Sorry but my lack of knowledge in how our profession works is very limited at the moment.
Thanks for all your help,
Alico
You will need a whole mess of flora and meat for BE. While meat won't be that hard to come by, you probably want to set up a micro-flora farm or two. Find a friend with survey skills to help you place them and you're all set. Of course, you'll need power for the farms, so you might want to invest in a generator as well.
I believe that any creature you can kill you can also sample from (but I'm not 100% certain, still relatively new myself). The higher the difficulty level, the more xp you get.
Hope this helps.
You need tons of meat, and gobs of flora (a ton is more than a gob). I'm not sure anymore but I don't think the devs have created a default macro for sampling DNA. You will need to create one that goes /sampledna. You can't sample dead animals and you can't harvest meat, bone, or hide from an animal you killed while sampling it (yes sampling kills the animal eventually).
That's enough to get you started. There is a FAQ sticky thread at the top of the forum that will give you a clearer idea of what to expect and how to go about doing things.
Congrats and welcome to the community.
