Thread: Sampling Clones Am I unlucky?

Greetings,

In my quest to make a decent non-CH mount, I’ve taken to sampling clones and sticking that DNA into another clone, so forth and so on, to get a nice critter in the end. I’ve had wonderful success with the few times I was able to get more than one sample from the previous clone (thus only having to use three wild DNA samples), but I’ve only been able to get multiple samples a few times (out of what must be at least a hundred tries now).

I’ve been using the option off the radial menu from the “deed” in my inventory, and will often fail outright (but not kill the creature) when I try to sample. At first I shrugged it off as low skill, but now that I’m at DNA III, I still get the same results: a pile of fails and a single sample. Am I doing something wrong? Should I have a CH tame the pet and call it for me so I can sample it out of deed form? Is there a trick to getting more than one sample? Out in the wild I often get two, three, sometimes even four samples from the same creature, but all my clones are wimps!

My experience has been3 samples being the average when recycling my critters. Infrequently I'll get a single sample and have the creature vanish, equallyinfrequent to get a full 5 samples before losing the creature. I've haven't failed sampling from an inventory deed critter in quite some time.. prior to the patch, definitely. Am a Master BE, not sure how much of a difference our DNA skill actually has in acquiring samples, aside from quality. Sampling is done almost exclusively from my inventory, though I'll occassionally sample a furniture creature to death if I decide I need the DNA. Think the trick to successful sampling is simply having a higher DNA sample skill.. and patience. ^_^

Works wonders for focusing on stats and can really help havinga bit more, albeit far more time consuming, control over the end critter.
