I currently have a MCH and I am almost a Master Pistoleer. I want to start a new acount/charatcer so I could make uber BE pets for my MCH. What would be the best template for make the best pets?
I was thinking for the MBE with a Master Ranger combo. That way I could stay hidden (mask scent) while I take samples, also I could find the creatures better. For the resource needs (meat) I figured I would use my MCH to collect that and do any other combat related collecting.
Does this sound like a good plan, or am I missing something? Is there a common template most people use to make the best pets?
Thank you

For making pets, BE/Master Scout/TKA X/X/4/X (where you decide the X) seems to work pretty well. At master scout the mask scent seems to be pretty much the best you've got, and if you master ranger, you'll only have 18 skill points with which to get combat abilities. Frankly I don't think 18 skill points into brawler OR marksman will be enough to save your ass when the rancor you just poked with a stick comes beating on your door. Pick up TKA and you can defend yourself *and* get some meat while you're out there.

it won't be too bad, but you will have to run, also BE's need flora, if you are only interested in making pets, you don't need artisan skills, so the above mentioned template would be a good idea If you plan on branching out into making other things, you pretty much need artisan skills so you can get decent quality flora... quality doesn't matter for pets, so you can just drop your harvestors next to someone elses and just go for the highest concentration of flora regaurdless of quality.
I also suggest you wait until after the combat balance to do this, you may not want pets after that... or if pets are again deemed useful by society, then there will be pleanty of BE's making pets, which will save you RL money.
Many BE's are not making pets becuase the market is limited, right now.

Is having combat skill needed to make the best pet, if I already have a combat related character? Do you aggroed so much that you need to defend yourself or is just a once in awhile annoyance? I just hoping I could make a not combat character, but if this is not a good idea, then maybe I'll try youridea.
Thank you,

since it is a second, you could just run, the problem is that to make the pets you are looking for you are going to be sampling Murant Rancors, Merek Harvesters, Mantrigue Screechers, ETC. it's nice not to have to run, but many do. As you go up the BE DNA sampling column it becomes less likely that the animal will die from sample, which will increase your chances of agro.

I am Master BE/Master Sword. I have no problems sampling anything. There are three things you want to be able to do as a BE.
1) Sample DNA
With good Mastscent clothing and a little patients I can sample everything in the game that is sampleable. Never run up to anaggrocreature, always go prone and crawl.
2) Harvest Meat resources
You are going to need meat if you are going to want to make anything in the BE line including Creatures. I am 2040 Scout and I can harvest better then a master ranger with my harvest Droid. Note: buying meat can get rather expencive. Although not all servers are the same; on intrepid good meat resources can go for as high as 250 credits per unit. So you may want to consider harvesting yourself.
3) Protect yourself.
Your best to get a master melee combat profession. If you aggro an Enraged Rancor and your bike poofs you might as well kiss your butt and at least 1% on your items good bye. Make sure you are buffed, you have a suit of 80% kinetic composit with an equip macro on your toolbar, and enough mind food (I take brandy) and spice to buff the crap out of your mind just in case. The reason I like sword is because of all of it's close combat defenses and it's ability to do mind damage. At master I am quite protected from most knockdown and bleeds that our friendly neighborhood rancors can dole out.
So if I do get aggroed while sampling a rancor, I quick stand up from prone, click my toolbar icon to auto-equip my armor and weapon, then pound the crap out of the lot of them and harvest the resources when I am done. Doing this I can get an inventory full of good DNA samples, and some good stacks of meat in one Doc buff session. Oh, you might want to make sure your harvest droid is out before you start your sample run, otherwise the corpses will start to poof before you can kill all the rancors that spawn from the lair (If you're at a lair).
Here's a trick I like to use. I'll find an aggro creature lair (like Rancors), clear all the 1st wave creatures and harvest them, hit the lair once then maskscent and go prone. I sit and wait for the rancors to spawn, almost always one will spawn right next to you and you can automatically start your harvest macro. As long as you don't move and he doesn't move he will not aggro you. I've had an entire wave of Rancors spawn around me after wacking a lair once, sitting down masked, and healing mind. I have found that as long as you don't move while they spawn you do not exist to them. I have had it happen though if a group member attacks or is attacked by the creature (Never group your harvest droid).
