Thread: Master BE what combat skills to take ?

I am in the process of slowly converting my Bounty Hunter into a BE. This is not a hologrind I am doing it because i reckon BE might be some fun and I am gonna need to start making BE wares for my up and coming chef and to possibly supply tissues to our guild tailor.
Obviously i am going to be a Master BE and I would really like to keep my ranger tracking line for harvesting puropses, this howver only leaves me with enough skill points to take 7 boxes ( 4+3) in an elite combat class.
Faced with this limitation what combat profession would you take up ?
Help much appreciated

If you don't plan on making pets I would say Sword (at least until the combat balance, then who knows). With Sword, headhit3, good buffs and good composit, nothing can hurt you. Why you might ask? Because you are going to need meat.With the prices of meat it's nearly impossible to stay competitive on the market and not go broke. With sword and a good weapon, you can solobasically any creature in the game with a little patients.
So here's what you do. (I am assuming you have the credits to burn here)
1)Grind master sword and master BE. (If you don't grind expect to be playing a long time before you get master. I would craft and sell pet stims on the Dantooine bazaar)
2) Get yourself a good sliced power hammer. I like speed slices better then damage slices but it's usually a horse a piece.
3) Get yourself a 100+ rating harvest droid.
4) Get in good with some hunters who keep track of where the good meat is. I will not harvest meat that has a BEQ of less then 750 using this formula. (33%OQ)+(33%PE)+(33%FL) Pretty much if it's less the OQ900, PE900, FL600 or equiv it's not worthy.
5) Get yourself 6 flora harvesters, 2 radioactive harvesters, 2 water harvesters (If you want to do pet stims), 2 chem harvesters (if you want to do pet stims), 2 Food and Chem factories, a fishing pole (for Pet Stim-Ds), a shellfish harvest tool, and a medium house (to start). All harvesters should be heavy and at least 13 BER (except radioactive, thise should be 14BER), when you can afford it move up to 14 BER on everything else.
6) Move into a city that is either a Research Center or an Industrial Society.
7) Find some good flora to harvest. I use the same requirements as meat for flora, anything below BEQ of 750 is useless.8) Get yourself a 42+ Food and Chem crafting station.
9) Get yourself 2 or 3 14.9+crafting tools.
10) Now you are ready to go.
If you stick to everything I have listed above, after about 2 to 3 weeks or so of harvesting flora and meat you should be pounding out some pretty good food tissues for your chef with only a cost of your time to survey and hunt. Otherwise you can buy resources from any number of resource vendors (They're like Walgreens on Intrepid; one on every corner). Good flora will probably cost between 10 and 20 credits per unit depending on your server. Youmay have problems finding meat though. I can usually get about 5k of good meat off the public bazaar in coronet every 2 to 3 days. Otherwise you'll have to contract a hunter and hope that he doesn't screw you. But I usually harvest my own resources so it's not a big deal. After a few months of being a BE you'll have two large houses full of DNA samples and Organic resources and should be able to make just about anything on the fly.

since you're going ranger i would suggest creature handler
it will save on the skill points, plus you make all your own weapons and stims
can't go wrong

I'm a master BE master TKA.... I dont seem to have any troubles collecting the meat with this template... but 2-handed swords is a pretty good combat prof to pick up as well.

I'd suggest taking Pistoleer....here's why:
1) at pistoleer 3040 you'll have Fan Shot, an AoE (albeit only a line) attack that does 1000+ damage with a good DX2
2)you'll be able to use the Geo Pistol, the beststun-damage ranged weapon in the game and an awesome pistol in its own right if made with good stuff (I saw a Krayt Geo with damage in the upper 100s-200s and speed under 3)
3) you'll get 30 points of dodge, and body shot 3
4) I'm not sure if you included it in the template, but with a low-speed pistol (I mean like a 1.0 speed Scout or DH17 pistol) you can spam Warning Shot like mad to keep aggros away from you, very useful for saving your butt in certain cases like when that Blurrg Raptor breaks your scent hehe =)
and also since you're BH you can level it up with a scatter till you have to drop NBH =)

with 7 boxes in any normal combat profession that's 61 sp
so hecan get 4444 ch and if he can free up one more skill point, master ch

hrm....suppose you're right about that, but I wouldnt call MCH a "combat profession" till they fix all the bugs =) If you dont have even novice brawler/marksman all that stands between you and that MR will be default attack on your CDEF pistol when your pet autostores =)

If he drops 1 box from his tracking tree he can master Creature Handler, I have no problems have no combat skills as this is my template MBE/MCH/Ranger 0030. Besides when I'm sampling never have a pet called anyway it's a race to see if I can get to my bike faster than it can incap me.
