Thread: Can't make a pet above Diff. Lvl. 10??

I just came back to the game about 5 days ago. I used to play a MBE/MCHpre-CU and decided to start over a new account with the TE game package on Station Access with my EQ2 account. My new BE is now 2/1/1/3. I spent the whole evening harvesting DNA on Talus. I picked up lots of Greater Sludge Panther (CL 20+) and Mottled Wrix (CL 20+) among other lower CL stuff (but none below CL 15). When combining only 20+ lvl DNA below average or average I cannot get a creature above difficulty level 10. I use a 14.55 TE crafting kit at a public crafting station. I cannot figure out why I cannot make a higher level pet. In fact, most of my pets come out lvl 6 or 7. Am I missing something that is new post-CU? Or is Difficulty Level not the same as Combat Level? Or what?

Very, very, very confused returning BE,

DL is basically 'dificulty level' it's same as our combat level but for the pet and denotes the 'max level of pets' needed to call the pet, bacially people call them diferent to diferentiate between wild creature levels and tamed creature levels, nothing sinister or complex hehe.

So Difficulty Level is the same as Creature Tame level for Creature Handlers......that's what I figured. Does creature type or Combat Level play a determining role in DL outcome? What I mean is, if I find a vynock that is CL4, and one CL15 and one CL 54 (saw lairs of each of these levels on Talus), I assume the DNA stats will be different. But is it the stat or some baseline for the creature type that drives the DL? or maybe it isnt known. I guess I will have to learn this BE thing all over again Which actually sounds kinda fun lol.

Thanks for the link posted above as well. One last thing, is there a food or drink that helps with mind actions? It used to be Vasarian Brandy but since mind is no longer a number but a bar.....what is best to use for DNA sampling? I have been using CAF for now.

Thanks again,

Fizzics

There are two types of DNA now:

  • wild lairs - where the DNA stats seem to more or less reflect the CL of the creature - ie. higher stats in all values for higher combat levels.

  • mission lairs - where the DNA stats look like the wild stats in all areas except hardiness (and possibly power).

The DL of the resulting pet that you create is entirely dependant on the stats of the final template. The hardiness and the power are the most important stats on the final template for determining the final DL. The tool predicts this and there are other threads that discuss the equations that determine the DL based on the value of the stats. But for now, it is enough to know that 300/200 in hardiness/power CAN make a level 10 or so, whereas 850/550 will be a much higher level pet - in the 60's.

To get the hardiness and power high you need to:

  • start with higher level (wild!)donors

  • experiment upwards in power and hardiness

It is easy - very very easy - to overshoot and make a pet that is more than level 70 which is the highest level that a master CH will be able to tame.

If I were you, I would go read Lammegiers' guide to pet making in the sticky labelled FAQ. There is some more there about which slots to put each sample in. I hope that helps. In general, your pet will be of a lower level than your highest donor ... but not always.

Also, you might want to keep to DNA from wild lairs only (does not say the animals name on the lair). I'd stay away from mission DNA that is from creatures that are elevated in CL b/c of the person taking the mission. If you have to, go with mission DNA from creatures that are lowered in CL b/c of the person taking it.

I'm recommending this FOR BEGINNERS b/c the elevated mission DNA does weird things. Experienced crafters can do what they like

Thanks for the info, I downloaded the BE Tool and it looks great ! I guess I can throw out all of my old DNA logs from last year and start logging DNA for each creature all over again. That was always the fun of this class to me...the relative complexity and variation that it offers as a crafting profession. Plus it plays into my love of exploring the wilds while I look for new creatures to sample.

I think I understand the wild level versus missioned level creatures. That's a new variant of the CU that kind of confused me the most. I always sample wild creatures, unless someone left a mission lair laying around I guess. And based on the CL's I was observing last night on Talus, I have a good feel for what was wild out there vs. missioned. Can't wait to get to sampling

Where is that post? In my confusion and lameness I still can't find it, and heaven knows, I need a pet making guide!! I have mastered making the CL 10 stuff, but I need to move into making CL 15, 25, 35, 70 stuff. It's driving me crazy!!!

Also, would anyone please care to share any recepes they have for successful CL 15, 25, 35, and yes, the uber duber CL 70 pets?

Please, please... help me... your my only hope!!

(I'm a post CU MBE on Lowca, and loving it, btw)

FAQ (in the works) is HERE. Scroll down to the red labelled General Pet Crafting tag that is 'written' by me b/c I just cut and pasted Lamm's post into it.

Well, CL69/70 is fairly easy to obtain, i've been making them from anglers and klikniks on yavin (easy to get them, lowest mission level on yavin is 65 and you can get them on these which is just the level you need them hehe)

DL has nothing to do with CL apart from a higher CL will have higher dna stats, you need to use a lot higher CL creeatures tbh, theres a great tool out for predicting what your dna can and cant do HERE

Thank you to everyone that answered the original poster's question. I had a lot of fun last night sampling level 29 plains cats on Naboo with my 1121 BE\Novice CH and I ended up with some max level 11 Kwis. I had been maxing out at level 8 so this was a nice bump up in creature power.
