Thread: Looking for advice from the True Masters of BE
When I started to grind BE, I became interested in what it was I was actually doing. It seemed... cool. So many stats on the DNA... nothing like anything I had done before. At one point I was one of the best crafters of CM goods, and I had dabbled in other crafting professions in the past as well. Not as good but I still did it.
Mainly, I was a PvP buff. Most on starsider would tell you Naecabon had probably killed them at least once. My main goal in what I did was to give myself a challenge, like make a Pikeman Character worthy in PvP, and I did just that and then some. WIth my weapons armor and clothing, I could take on groups of 10-15 at my prime. Pretty impressive.
So In looking at this "new" BE system, I thought to myself... I cant remember the last time I saw a CH in PvP. I PvPed from morning til midnight and barely ever came across a serious CH as a PvPer.
So now I plan to make one.
I have 2 Characters, and one of them is the post-hologrinding BE, the other my PvP character. Im using the BE to pump out the pets I want to use as my CH, mostly because I feel its funner to use things in battle youve made yourself. Anyone can buy something from a vendor, not everyone can claim they made their tools from scratch.
Now before you laugh at the thought of a CH PvPer, please understand I have an absolute knowledge of PvP in this game and I do know for a fact a decent PvPer can be made using CH as a backup. It is my opinion that CH -by itself- is not a worthy PvP force, but as a tool to the end quite useful. My main strategy will be Rifleman/CH, using my pets not as a damage source, but as a State effect source. Using Intimidate, Stun, Dizzy and Knockdown from my pets, all while shooting at them with High damage, Mind Fire and Mind Poison rifles, I think they will not only go down in seconds, but have no idea what hit them. I also plan to try a tactic I thought up, and if anyone can deny or confirm this that would be excellent, and it is: Using Retreat with your pets in a group. Ive stumped 5 CSRs in the Chat Rooms on if this works or not, because you can argue either way. If anyone has a SL/CH and you know for a fact it does/does not work, please let me know. Luckily SL is easy to level so I can take the skill quickly and not worry too much if it doesnt work.
HOWEVER, this brings me back to my BE issues. I know exactly what I want in pets, Im just working to figure out the best ways to make them. Im still fairly new, and I was going to try and do this myself, but I figure there are BE's in this forum that have been around alot longer than I, and asking for advice certainly never hurt anyone.
My main problem thus far is I am trying to make low level pets but focusing too highly on the higher level creatures to sample. A part of me just doesnt want to accept I cant use the best DNA to create lvl 22 creatures.
First off let me state what I want:
I consider there to be 4 "templates" of CH for me when it comes to fighting, and I want to have those 4 ready. They are
1 Uber Pet, being extremely high level. I have this already, my lvl 69 Carrion Spat is quite cute.
2 Level 35's.
3 Level 23's.
2 Level 30's with a third Level 10 Mount.
Now automatically Id also like to ask about this supposed issue regarding CHs not being able to call their full 70? Someone in Teamspeak was telling me about this last night, and I kinda raised an eyebrow at it because I hadnt heard of any such thing. I had a CH tame my lvl 69 Spat and give it to me, and from my knowledge if he can call him from the Deed that means he will be able to call him whenever. Information on this issue would be appreciated.
Now, for what I want out of each template: )Im only going to list specials for now because the HAM/Resists is the same for all.)
For the 2 Level 35's, I want One pet to have SP1 KD and SP2 Stun. The other pet, to have SP 1 Dizzy and SP 2 Intimidate. This allows me to get the KD/Dizzy effect potentially off in one hit, rather than wait and have one pet attack twice. If it goes perfectly, the first hit would cause the
KD/Dizzy effect. Then I have stun/intimidate as nice little backups.
For the 2 Level 30's, same exact thing. No change except now theyd be smaller HAM.
For the 3 Level 23's, Id want 1) SP1 KD / SP 2 Intimidate, 2) SP1 Dizzy / SP2 Strong Disease, 3) SP1 Stun / SP2 Strong Poison. This allows me to throw a Stun/Dizzy/KD at them in the first hit, then while theyre lying down try and stack the Poison/Disease/Intimidate while Im headshotting them.
Now, as I said Id want HAM/Resists to be pretty much the same, IE: As high as possible for the given levels, while keeping Kinetic, Energy, Stun and -maybe- Acid/Heat if I can afford it. Possibly having No volunerabilites would be cool too, even if its just 0.
AR1 is a big issue with me because I dont know -how- much it reflects on the creature level.
Now, to give you an Idea of how insane I am, I'll show you the DNA Ive been using for the particular Specials. Keep in mind, I was under the Impression from the BE sticky Guide that Aggression meant SPecial 1 and Psychology meant Special 2.
SP1 KD - Gronda Juggernaut
SP1 Dizzy - Kamurith Snapper
SP1 Stun - Surefoot brackaset
SP2 Stun - Mire Marauder
SP2 Intimidate - Quenker Relic Reaper
SP2 Strong Poison - Arachne Webmaster
SP2 Strong Disease - Deaths Head
HAM slots - Mantrigue Reaper.
Now my usual outcome is a 8-10K HAM pet that is roughly lvl 31-36 CL. This is kinda high. On top of that, the specials are -yet- to come out right. I get Crippling Strike on every one! Im yet to have Strong Poison/Disease stick in slot 2 from using it in Psychology. (Obviously something is wrong.)
My question to the leet BEs: What would you do? I know it may take some time, but I will be a new face in this forum youll see alot of. Id appreciate it if I got to know you guys from your helping me out in the beginning.
Thanks in advance, I really do appreicate it. This profession rocks, thats all I gotta say.
Just as a real quick note, you might be able to consolidate some of your specials from sampling a single creature if you don't mind re-thinking the special pairings; for instance, Intimidation/Strong Poison can be had from Anglers on Yavin. When I'm after a particular combo I like to refer to this helpful site: http://www.swgcreatures.com/
Has a very nice advanced search system if you're looking for specials, armor, resists, etc. (and once again, my thanks to the sites creators).
Can't help the main question since I've only just startedexperimenting withcustomising petspecials myself.
That said - this I do know for sure: Whether specials 'stick' isalmost entirelydown to the level of the creature dealing them (at least in PvE). I've found that a single high DL critter is far, farbetter at poisoning/intimidating the target than a couple (or three)low-medium levels. Rule of thumb seems to be that if the critters are equal level the specials stick 50% of the time, going up or down based on level difference.
So 1 high level critter with a chance ofsticking of 50% is more likely to apply the special successfully than 2 with 25%,giving a total chance of 43% for the special to stick. This assumes the 'to stick' chance is linear, which it certainly isn't (or you'd get a lot of diseased newbs from fightinbg putrid decay mites and other 'trash'). The actual calculation is almost certainly geometric, giving an even more pronounced advantage with using higher level pets.
Now this may not apply to PvP, butif you areusing the pets for thier special attacks then it is definitely someting to think about.
