A couple days ago my "bodyguards" and I went to Endor to see what was available to for me to sample (I've never been there). I found a bunch of critters that had me drooling (Arachne Queens and Widows for example) but for some reason I couldn't sample.
Eventually though I ended up back in my workshop outside Theed with a backpack full of some very good DNA samples, about half of which had "light" armor with Fortutude well over the 500 mark. So with my pulse beating hard I threw five of the "better" samples together, with the first slot being taken by a sample with 607 fortitude and hit "combine", got a "Great Success" and lo! I created a Template with 238 Fortitude. With the 3 Experiments points I have I managed to get it to about 380...
For some reason I thought that using 5 samples, all with 500+ Fortitude (and one 600+ in the first slot), I would end up with...well, something better as a template. Is there a way to gauge, maybe even to estimate, what a stat will be ahead of time? With that backpack full of DNA samples I made a handful of level 17 - 20 creatures and two 30+ creatures with Light Armor, all of which had fairly mediocreresists (though the DNA I used had great resists) and HAM.
What is the trick for turning great DNA into great pets?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah I guess mentioning my skill levelswould've helped huh
I am 1/2/4/2 - and with the exception of that most recently gained box in my Engineering tree (the last one) I've been that way for about 3 months. Exp is just too slow unless I want to spend days doing nothing but grinding. Kinda bites when my friend who is working his Armor smith tree gets about 300 per combine for his exp grind and the highest I've been able to manage is between 80 and 100...
But at any rate, thank you for your reply. I will check out the recipes in the threads you mentioned. I looked for them before making that post but apparently didn't see them.
Thanks again!

What are your BE skills?
If you only have 3 exp points I suspect they are relatively low which is why you were having problems sampling the uber-critters and the results weren't as good as you'd hoped.
The BE experimentation line is absolutely critical to the quality of your products - it controls the 'first assembly' of the product, the number of experimenation attempts you get and how much of an 'add' you get with each attempt. For this reason many BE's max out this line before even looking at cloning and tissues.
Sampling is the same - your skill controls both your chances of successfully sampling and the quality of the samples you get.
This, I think, is your fundamental problem right now - best bet is to get those stacks of meat and start grinding micronutrient supplements............ (not really a "proper" way to do it for purists, but the "proper" way will take you forever!)
As to the trick for turning great DNA into great pets - check out the FAQ's and recipe threads in this forum.
Best of luck
(BTW: If you really want to make pets that sell at low level, check out the Non-CH creature pets threads and try your hand at making and selling those. It's a big market and high experimentation skills actually work against you!)

Don't learn too much right now, because the rules of the game change as you go up in skill. When I was new I started compiling data and doing experiments only to find out that nothing was the same once I mastered. There are some funky formulas for how this stuff comes out at the end. I once fooled myself into thinking I had it figured out, but I didn't.

lol. The dev can't figure out how it works or it would actually work correctly and we wouldn't be faced with valid versus invalid animals ![]()
Keep those armor samples off to the side. You'll be able to make some nice armored animals with them when you get enough skills. Don't waste them until you can use them properly.
