I've eventually managed to make a dewback with 2.6k/2.5k/1.6k HAM and about 10% kinetic resist, I know it's nothing special, but I don't really care, I'm still pretty damn pleased

My congratulations!
Hopefully you've taken notes of the recipe?

Oh yes, it's glued in my memory now, it took a bit of effort. It started off as dewback, dewback, dwarf nun, dwarf nuna, dwarf nuna. Came out as a dewback at CL11, so sampled it to death and tried BE dewback, BE dewback, BE dewback, dwarf nuna. Again, CL 11. So, eventuall did wild dewback, BE dewback, BE dewback, dwarf nuna, dwarf nuna and didn't experiment as much on it. Result, a dewback at CL 10 and a very happy little Bothan BE
Lesson from all this: just because I have 7 exp points doesn't mean I should use them all.

That's very true, even for other pets than lvl10-pets, very often.
You might try replacing one or bothdewback samples by something with even more vulnerabilitiesor one dewback or nuna sample byanother onethat complements thedewbackin a way that even more resists are canceled out - will help to achieve lvl10 easier. The HAM of it could even be somewhat higherthan that of the dewback without causing troubles.

If you're trying to get a CL10 pet then just use utter junk in the aggression slot. Huurton Pup is the lowest possible (other than BE'd pets) but anything like dwarf nuna, worrt, nightspider etc is good.

The point isnt to make an uber cl10 pet though - the point here is you're learning how the crafting process works, and that will serve you far better than a recipe ever could. BE is the only crafting profession that goes beyond the resources you use and getting 12-point.

Ding Ding give that Bothan a gold star.
When I craft CL10 animals I typically only use 3 or 4 exp points.
