It's streaky and your experience is not unusual.

Oh yea I've failed almost that many times. Probably could have gone even longer if my last sample attempt didn't get the rancors attention.. upon which time I was eaten alive.

It's a little pathetic really lmao.

Sometimes you just fail a lot in a row. I stopped counting when I hit 20.

So I should be lucky with my 13 fails earlier tonight? ^^ found a herd of 5 mutant rancors. yeilded a total of 8 samples and I'm very happy. ^^

I got 8 samples off a nightspider the other night before it croaked. Anyone ever break 10?

I had 17 off a crimson razor once.

On Dathormir there is a Rancor Cave in the far southwest, I dont recall if its a POI or not, but im sure we can get the waypoint for you. IF you go there, you can kill or run off the ancient bull that guards the entrance, and get inside. The Rancors are split up so you only have ot take on one at a time. There are youths, gnarled mutants and 1 bull in the back + your mutants your after. There is at least 5 mutant rancors in the cave. This is where i get my dna off them. They are mostly positioned for sampling. All you do is go in the cave, kill the first youth, turn right, get teh gnalred to chase you towards the entrace and then take him out (being careful because there is a mutant on the level below you and you dont want him to wake up) and then you hvae your first free run. You need to have on +25 MS / Camo bio clothes, drink 1 jawa beer, 1 brandy, and eat 1 pc of canapes (in case the mutant wakes up you arent mindless). walk along the right side walkway turn left walk down and about 25-30 go prone and low crawl up to the mutant who has his back to you and sample. When you are done with him, you turn left and walk forward and theres 2 more mutants about 100m from you . This is a static cave so its always there, and most of the mutants are with their backs or sides to you so you can get them almost every time so it makes the pain of failure hurt less because theres more to get w/in immediatne non aggro range. After these 2 you go to the back of the cave killing one youth and go around the corner till you see another youth. This is where you need to be careful. Behind the youth is the Bull rancor. The Mutants are one on the left, one on the right behing natural rock pillars. You can easly walk up and aroudn and lowcrawl to the mutant on either side. I have done this many times w/o anything aggroing me. You will fail alot, but the thing is they are right there in range so you can just go to the next and not have them all attacking you at once. I have come out of the cave with as many as 10 pc's of dna and as little as 0. It appears to me to go in streaks, you are either getting it and very stealth, or its just not meant to be on that day. I see no differnce in hiding from a mutant rancor or a corillian butterfly, i MS up the same way every time and everything gets you at some point or the other so just hang in there until you have a good day and dont expect to make a killing every time.

the only problem in the cave is theres no place ot run. so if one attacks you, you cant just disengage, you pretty much have to kill the mutant and go to the next, its a waste, but if you run to far you will go back outside with the ancient bull or into a pack of them behind you or get cornored, either way it will be ON so be sure you can solo them. I'm a TKA so i can take them w/o any problems.
