Thread: Rare genetic upgrades / mutagenic components

One thing which occoured to me a second ago is that while it's possible to create some truely high HAM critters the same cannot be said for damage. We see that as we increase the damage the HAM doesn't drop by anywhere near as much as we would like plus we simply cannot create high damage clones without having some potents resists as well. So what if there was components for the templates which had special effects. Basically like a mutagenic component which doesn't take anything away from the other slots but simply enhances certain stats.

I mean take for example you wanted a clone with the HAM and resists of something around CL30 however wanted to push the damage really high. You'd need masses of inbreeding to pull that off plus you couldn't really exceed that 700 damage you find at around CL75. However if the other stats were lowered then it could be possible to produce a CL70 clone with around 1000+ damage but limited to around 800 / 800 / 800 and no resists or armor. With such raw power even though it wouldn't be able to take much damage it could put a serious dent into almost any mob in the game. These components would be like the rare loot drops, you'd stick them into slots for the template and they'd essentially have only a fragment of dna resulting in only one stat being increased while taking nothing from the others.

Usually when you stick any dna into a slot you find it contributes to all stats, these mutagenic components would only effect certain stats and thus allow for some very detailed control over the pet which bypasses all that inbreeding. Maybe these would be rare dna samples which are extracted as normal but have unique properties. Dorment genes you might say or dna which was corrupted as you extracted it resulting in something which can be used to mutate the clone it goes into.

It would also be interesting to have "options slots" where you could add a specific attribute or ability to the template. These would come at a fixed cost to the CL. Want to give your pet the ability to Open Wounds? Sure, but it will cost you an additional 5 to CL. Want to have Plague Strike? Okay, but the cost is 10 to CL. Maybe you could add damage, increase speed, change size, or add a specific resist. The thing you stick into the option slot could be a rare loot drop or maybe something you have to create out of less common materials.

I like the idea.
Personally everytime I craft a dna template and see 'generic DNA template' I want an advanced DNA template to be added.
Something that will allow you to specialize resists. (make vulnerabilities to lower CL. specialize towards other resists)
something that will allow you more control over the generic template.

Anything that gives us more control over pet creation is a plus
