Thread: Okay, what am I doing wrong??

I found that most of the Bioengineer profession I've learnt so far was both fun and interesting to play with. However sampling is the bane of my experience as a Bioengineer. Its almost infuriating how I have to sit and watch 9 out of 10 of my samplings go to waste for some bizarre reason. Now I'm not trying to go out and sample a rancor for my first time, we're talking the trash around the main cities, the gorgs, the lesser womp rats, the rills. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some masterful way of sampling that I failed to even consider or notice? Do I have to crawl up to the creature on my belly and stick a needle into it?

Please, fellow bioengineers.. help me out here..

First of all use Maskscent when sampling anything. It helps keep them calm. I walk up with my maskscent on follow the creature and sample. Now if you want to sample that rancor or anything aggro for that matter, yes you better crawl up on your belly with your maskscent on and wearing Bio-Engineered clothing. I've been doing Gurk Lair missions on Lok. They are not aggro, the missions pay 8K and gurks give 300-350xp per sample. I made DNA Sampling 4 in a weekend. But when they aggro on me i just get incapped and get up and start again (no combat ability).

the higher u r in dna sampling tree the better u will be (u prolly already no this). anyways, mask scent is a helper, very good. once u get to the point where u dont need the dna exp nemore and r just makign epts, its good to have ur vehivle out, ex. riding along ur vehicle and u stumble across a mountain squill lair. you get a distance away from them jump off vehicle to mask scent...now get back on, slowly fly towards first squill, jump off hit ur macro, target ur bike and be ready to hit ur /mount macro...if they agro u, hit the macro and fly away...wait for combat to cease and u can go back. works great, this way u can go against agro creatures without the fear of dieing and cloning...i learned this trick from a friend...works pretty good. good luck

I think they really screwed up the novice BE sampling from what I've heard. You're doing nothing wrong, just grit your teeth and bear it with the knowledge that it does get a lot better. At the master level, even sampling very high level stuff you succeed a lot more then you fail. I do hope they fix this though because it does sound like it is pure torture for newer BE's. It certainly didn't used to be this way.

don't think your doing anything wrong, i went through the same troubles with it. just grin and bear it, it does get alot better once you get the sampling one. that seemed to make a huge difference for me. you also might want to pick up some muon gold spice, it makes things a bit easier since you dont have to wait for you mind to regen. once i got sampling 2 i went to dant and did picket missions, bout the same xp and money as gurk missions on lok, i just like pikets, and just on a side note if your working a combat profession right now too sampling can really be your best friend, sample the critters to death and destroy the lair and you get to work both at the same time. sampling 3 and 4 went by in probably a day and half so just stick with it, it gets better

Aside from Maskscent as being a must to use, becasue if you aggro something then the Maskscent if its not broken will protect you from the other things around the aggroed creature.

I recommend to do not have anything armed on you either, as this will invarible make things more upset the more damage you cause or the more times you damage something, poison and Bleeding and disease are great to kill something, but not in escapeing.

You will find by using unarmed comabt you can run and hit peace and the thing will stop chasing you faster that way.

A nice trick I found is that when you are being chased running through a group of other creatures tend to slow or even a halt the pursuit faster.

If you are about to get incapped, hopefully you are incapped in a different group of creatures....I dont know why but things even with death blow will go away instead of death blowing you in those places most of the time.

If you want to get DNA from High level things, I suggest you get some real good clothes, you want to have a skill of over 100 definately, and even though some of the developers say things dont put you above 125 you want above that rating.

Yes you will notice a difference.

And yes there is a difference for that and for using Medicine with high rating Modifier clothing.

I mean when you can see a difference of over 500 then well gee I wonder.

Another good tactic is to try and get another person to come along on your trip with you, not sure why but you get a better chance your masked scent works when you go around in groups with other people.

Maybe a delibrate bonus to encourage groups...I dont know.

Anywise...not sure what the caps are but somethings will be beyond your ability...but instead of you being told...the development team decided it would be more fun to torment people with an ill fated message "you do not collect a viable sample"

yes you dont fail totally you just didnt get a viable sample....

That is a very bad twisted sense of humor from the DEV team.

Do you "/follow" the critter before you "/sampledna"?

You canget an idea of whats worth sampling at your level here:
