What do you mean by a good pet? If you mean a lvl 35 pet with 13k ham, 500 dmg, light armor and high resists then you are not alone. But I have made a few that were a lot better than what I can tame in the wild. I'm afraid I dont know the formulas either, but I try mixing different dna's. I also know that the specials come from the dna used in the bottom slot (aggression?). As far as second generation pets I also dont have the formula, but I would think it would involve using the same basicdna in the first clone assembly except for dna copies made of the first generation pet. You already admit your having fun so just keep doing it, dont play by formulas...

on the mask scent issue - this might seem live a given but make sure you're prone and crawling when you try to sample with your finger hovering over the /stand; and /burstrun; buttons

Hi Wade,

You might want to check out the how to make a clone section of the FAQ up above. I started it with a section on the 2 primary methods for DNA sampling. I would also be happy to answer an specific question you might have. (If I can) My main advice would be don't give up. It took me 3 days of sneaking up on Mutant Rancors with just Explore 4 before I managed to get reliable at it. Keep trying. Move slowly going in, stay low and approach from behindif your on foot. Have an escape path planned that takes you past non-aggros. The instant they attack hit your burst run and get out of there. Its also a good idea to invest in a shield and if possible a health buff. If they spot you coming in freeze and try getting your scent mask back up. If they start closing run. Method 2 is a little safer but I'm guessing it will be nerfed soon or later. Put up your scent mask and come in on the bike. If they spot you just drive away, lose aggro and put up your scent mask. Stop next to one of these guys and jump of the bike. Start sampling. Make sure you have a macro ready to get back on the bike. The macro "/mount Speederbike" will get you back on the bike if your close enough without having to switch focus back to the bike. In either case its a good idea to wear a suit of scent mask bonus clothing.

As for making creatures, what are you looking for? I'd suggest getting very familiar with either Sumorex or my section of the FAQ. They go into painful levels of detail of the DNA fits together. The big thing we are currently missing is a good understanding of how the Creature Level is determined. Tal-N's guide to non-CH pet is probably the best thing for beginning to understand how that works.

I have a little advice.

The first place I would start sampling DNA is on Endor. There is lots of good DNA to be had their, and it is a great place to practice sneaking up on things. Some of the good DNA with good resists, ham, etc. to start with is Merek Harevesters(MH), Merek Deaths Head(MDH), Arachne Webmasters(AW), Bark Mite Burrowers(BMB), Toxic Merek Battlelords (TMB), and even regular Gurrecks and Blurrgs.

These are relatively easy to find. I usually just go to the Smuggler's outpost on Endor drive out about 1000m away from the outpost, and drive a big circle around it. I run into all of this stuff with good regularity. This will get you a good stock of quality DNA to play with. Practice masking scent and then crawling (prone), walking (hold down shift while moving), etc. so you can figure out what you can and can't get away with.

A couple other little tidbits that were helpful to me. The basic mask scent break points are at 65m and a 41m . So you usually wanna start about 70m away, mask scent, move slowly towards the beast, and when you are closer than 41m, you pretty much got it... just keep moving slowly.

The next thing to really know is basically what stats on the DNA affect what stats on the final creature. There is a pretty easy chart, that I think is ultimately attributed to Sumorex, but I am going to re-post it here for you, because it was so very helpful to me.

...........Physique..Prowess..Mental..Psych..Agression
Health.......40%.......25%.......5%......5%....25%......Hardiness
Action.......25%.......42%......17%......9%.....8%......Dexterity
Mind..........5%.......10%......50%.....30%.....5%......Intellect
Armour.......40%.......25%.......5%......5%....25%......Fortitude
Resists......40%.......25%.......5%......5%......25%......(Resists)
Damage.......17%.......16%.......9%.....17%....42%......Power
Attack.Spd...9%.......5%.......26%......43%.....17%......Courage
To.Hit........5%.......10%......50%.....30%.....5%......Cleverness
Special1.......................................................X....(Invalid->Nil)
Special2............................................X...........(Invalid->Nil)
Ranged...................................X

Sorry I know the formatting got messed up in there. The main things are Health is affected by Hardiness, and mainly affected bythe Hardiness of the DNA in the Physique slot. The Action is mainly affected by the Dexterity of the DNA in the Prowess slot. Etc., etc.

With generational sampling, the basic premise is that when you sample your own pet. You will get DNA stats that are lower than the DNA Template you built that pet out of, however, you will maintain the same Resists and Special Attacks. So this is a good way to lower the level of a pet, without sacrificing resists or specials. Also, with this, you can use a few DNA from the original pet, and add in DNA with specific other attributes you want, to try to customzie a pet even further.

Well, this is all I can think of off the top of my head, hope that helps a bit.

thanks to you all! you've all been a big help!

I guess the part that i get confused at is with the generational cloning. Do you use all cloned dna ? do you use half and then crap? what should go where?

Thanks again soo much!

One other very important thing if you want to live while sampling high CL monsters. Buy yourself a nice set of Advanced Ubese Armor. If one aggros you throw the armor on and run or even just walk away from them. They will lose interest, you can re-mask scent, take off the armor and go in again.

Advanced Ubese is the best friend of a BE in my opinion Its saved my life 100s of times, its well worth the money. Easy to get on without needing buffs and makes Mutant Rancors hits feel like little love taps, heh.

No more dieing.

It is an excelent chart. However the way specials make it into clones is fairly complicated and not completely understood. There is another thread today about psych vs aggression for special 2 which has some excelent information on the subject.

Whats your goal? If your looking to drastically lower the CL of the creaure your working with then yes mixing multi-generational DNA with low-cl creature can work quite well. I'd also look at what your experimenting as another good way to lower CL. Remember to avoid touching the aggression slot for experimentation if you want to lower CL.

If on the other hand you want to get specific traits then you can do that differently. I like mixing Mantigrue Reaper DNA with the specials I want for a good mix of resists and specials. For example I might use Deaths Head Merek for strong poison/strong disease. They unfortunetly have 10% resists. Mix it MaR/MaR/AW/AW/AW to get Light armor,25% kinetic/energy and 45% blast/cold/electricity/acid/stun. If those resists aren't good enough I mix it back in with more mantigrue reaper DNA. Alternatly I can then sample that and mix with something like mutant rancor DNA or Bark Mite Burrower depending on what my final goal is. MuR/MuR/2/2/2 for generally high resists and good HAM or BMB/BMB/2/2/2 if I want to get high kinetic resist and a more reasonable CL.

WadeNightmane,

As far as what to use cloned 2nd generation dna in and what to use first generation in all depends on what you want your creature to do CL wise.

CL seems to be determined by resistances (kinetic and energy especially), Ham, armor, damage, attack speed, and to-hit.

If you have a client that wants a high ham/res pet you might want to use 2nd generation dna in slots like agression (damage), mental (mind and to-hit), and psychology (attack speed).

2nd generation DNA is great because you can keep the res/specials while only "gimping" certain attributes (the ones you dont experiment on).

Another BIG tip is when you put together a DNA templet, blow up the screen and use the "print screen" key to take a screen shot. You can later print the screen out OR alt tab it to your picture viewer. This will give you a reference what stats need to be lowered or raised if you miss a CL level.

Another tip, armor requires fortitude to be 500 or more. In order to have fortitude reach 500 you have to have enough "fortitude" in your DNA templet. Fortitude is determined by:

physique 40% prowess 25% agression 25% and mental/psychology 5% each.

Obviously we can see physique, prowess, and agression are the most important for determining armor.

What I usually do is use high fortitude DNA in the physique, prowess, and agression and then use non-armored (under 500 fortitude)creatures in mental and psychology. This helps to keep the level somewhat lower and allows me to play with special 2 and ranged. Remember that mental seems to be the slot that controls Ranged Attacks and psychology seems to control special 2 (although this isnt 100%).

Another "Trick" I use is when using the above, I will sometimes low ball the Fortitude so that when I max out physique the final fortitude is under 500 (in the high 300s or mid 400s). I then sample the creature for 2nd generation DNA to use in a armored pet (the mental and psychology slots)when I want certain specials (special 2 and ranged) to come through on my armored pet.... This also allows control over the mind ham bar, To-Hit, and attack speed.

Lastly, it seems the higher the quality DNA used the more likely specials and ranged attacks are to come through (again not 100%). So reserve your Very High Quality dna for mental (ranged) psychology (special 2) and agression (special 1).

Using 2nd gen DNA can allow you to use Very High Quality DNA in those slots without have to worry about bumping the CL too much while giving a better chance for the ranged/specials to come through....

Sorry if I'm being scattered brained

There much more as there is a lot of tricks to being a MBE.

Play around with MBE and read the forums often Thats is probably the best advice anyone can really give a new MBE

Very informative answers..aside from the BE Sticky F.A.Q. this has been the best post i've read.

Ok, I have to admit that I was told to do BE from a holo, BUT since I did BE I quit the holos and am staying a MBE. I've been one for abouta month and a halfand still have yet to successfully make a good pet!!! I get really lost when i read the boards here. The abbreviations you use for critters and such I can't figure out.

This is the first game of this kind i've played and really love it. The thing is where some people get all this stuff, I'm really lost. I mean I'm not an idiot or anything, but some of this stuff is way over my head. I like crafting and love making and sampling pets, but for the life of me cant do it well! Haven't been able to find Bark mite burrowers or whatever theyre called that everyone says is so good for pets.

  • Haven't been able to successfully sample a Rancor or even come close with +70/+100 mask scent without getting aggroed and most of the time dying.

  • Can't figure out the generational thing where you sample the critter to get lower stats on the next, i always screw mine up really bad and nothing comes thru.

Any words of encouragement or pointers, or a beam of light in the right direction to help me get on the right path to become a successful MBE would be so greatly appreciated!

Now I'm not asking for any secret formulas or anything like that, just a little guidance =o)

I've read these boards and posts and guides and I just get more confused =o(

a lost MBE....
