Thread: Thoughts On how to Handle the Vendor Changes

I have been trolling the Merchant Forums over the past couple of days... and I am wondering what is the overall opinion of the changes, as seen through BE eyes.

The major issues which will effect BEs as I see them are that Backpacks will count as all items.. therefore a full run of additives will count as 41 on your vendor. Plus the current rule is that offers to vendors can only be upto 25 items.... do the math... 2 runs to the same buying vendor and hope the pick up is quick.

Also the vendors at Bussiness 3 - only 100 items ( 2 runs and some tissues)

Bussiness 4 only 250 items (6 runs and some tissues)

I am not saying that the begining of the revamp is wrong... but selling our wares will be harder and harder if you are not a M Merchant too... I am a M CH and M BE and love the combo but I will have to drop all combat skills into order to get to Bussiness 4 and possibly drop surveying in order to get to Novice Merchant ( 3 vendors and 750 items) in order to keep a decent stock of products for my customers.

The only way I am seeing around this is face to face transactions... and meeting out at my factories where I can hold finished stock. I am not sure if I would want to place things in my house for pick up... (another suggestion) there is a major trust issue with many SWG players. Not like you can store to many full runs in a small house anyway with the backpack nerf. ( maybe if they made it 1/2 of the contents counted to the total number... hmmm just a thought).

I am trying not to rant... just bringing up issues which will effect our choosen profession in a major way. I am diverse in my BE... I do it all... Chef additives, tailor additives and Pets and Pet Supplies. I enjoy it greatly and I may have to choose to limit what I do.... and cater to one type of customer at a time.

And I don't wish to give up my partners in hunting (my CH pets) either... but it looking like I will have to make a hard choice soon.... especially if there isn't in the near future... a way to rent a vendor which doesn't require the Merchant to pay out of pocket, and have trust issues..... I have my fingers crossed and prayers to the Dev gods that they come up with a way to have admin rights on vendors....

My thoughts and concerns only....

Sincerely yours in worry

Will this 'backpack counting all items within' also count for backpacks full of tissues that we offer up on customer's vendors? If so this is going to drastically change how we deliver product. Face to face transfers will become more common, which will have the side effect of bypassing city taxes.

In a short answer - Yes..

This change is going to effect deliver and city growth... unless you add the taxes in and re-inburse you city...

I've been really really struggling to accept these changes, and while the high level merchants are really happy with them, I've come to the realization that these changes completely invalidate my current template and play style. So I've decided to change rather than fight it. Rather than playing professions I *want* to play on my alt (bounty hunger/ranger/ch) I'll play what the damn game seems to insist that I play for practical reasons (rifleman/scout/ch) and then add a ton of merchant onto that template. I figure that I'll actually be more effective hunting, and certainly a lot more effective selling, but there is still sort of a lingering bad taste in my mouth that I was forced into doing this for no good reason at all. The changes seem completely arbitrary to me.

Oh well

I don't have any alt accounts and I won't be playing into Sony's hands regarding alt accounts either. My character is a master creature handler and master bio engineer. I also have novice merchant with advertising 2. I even have a bit of survey. I have three vendors; one for tissue products including pet meds, one for various animals I've made, and one available to the other people in my guild who don't have merchant skills to sell their items on. I believe the revamp will actually give me additional vendors as well. My guild even asked me to give up survey to get advertising 3 so we can get our vendors on the map.

I have no combat skills at all. My only weapon is a stick I looted off a desert demon (it does twice the damage of a cdef pistol ) Mypets kill all the animals I need to harvest meat from. I stand around and watch. Iheal my pets a few times, send some tells, watch the grass grow, and wack the wild animal with my stick when I get bored. In other words, If you have master creature handler you don't need combat skills to get the resources you needto practice your BE craft.

The vendor limits effect me of coursebut not as drastically as others it seems. I've never sold complete tissue runs from a vendor. My typical tissue run is sold before its even completed. Almost always my tissue customers pick the crates up in person right out of my factories.

I readwhat Nancy posted from the correspondent forum regarding skill points. I got off the forum and tooksome time to think it over without the impact ofall theanguish. We all start out with a number of points. We all make decisions how to allocate those points. Its impossible to have everything so we have to make due. I readthe post where a person decided to surrender BE. That's one example of the choices we have. I'll be keeping BE.I believe the choices I've made work best for my character.

If this change affects me as greatly as it seems it might then I'll likely take a break from SWG and try CoH since a number of my RL friends are playing that (having given up on SWG quite awhile ago).

It could be interesting, especially since a friend of mine (Shane Hensley, creator of "Deadlands") recently hired on as the lead designer for CoV.

psst....CoH is a lot of fun. When I was about to kill Buboo I picked up CoH. Don't tell anyone I said that though.I'm glad Bub survived all the same.

Now when JTL comes out things may change. Pinky and the Brain may walk off into the Tatooine sunset looking for Hermit Prime.

To each their own. I played CoH. Thought it was fun for a couple of weeks but then just got bored with it. Had more fun designing costumes than actually playing the game.

This is totally off topic so I'll keep it short.

CoH is fun in that its not buggy or laggy. Its level basedso you don't have the skill points to consider. If you pay attention to the clues and the mission there is a story line. The AI is incredible as well. The NPC's will actually interact with you. What a novel concept. CoH is a game you can play for a while, put away, and come back to andpick up where you left off. Its easy to view it as the game it really is.

SWG has awesome graphics and the personal interaction between players goes beyond all other video games. The player economy is something unheard of before. The game can become a chore to the point of being a second job. Its almost impossible to walk away from SWG for a period of time because when you come back things have moved on without you including your customers.

They are two very different games with pro and cons of their own.

Well I have made it up to Novice Merchant and most of my worries are gone for the most part...

But I have given more thought on this.. I recently remember that the factories have output admin rights...

So I am thinking... that the chefs pay you for the run and you grant them 12-24 hr output hopper rights to come

and pick it up themselves...

Just a Thought out there for those who have limited vendor or no vendor space....
