Had some fun on Friday. No sooner had I logged on than I got a tell from someone asking if I'd received his email. I didn't recognise the name so I said I'd check. Sure enough there was no email. The chap therefore explained that he wanted to order a razor cat and he wanted to come with me to collect DNA. I agreed.

First stop Corellia. Teras Kasi Master and Master Fencer tried various combinations of equipping uncertified weapons and calling weak pets until we managed to pull a Corellian butterfly defender mission. Grabbed some samples. On to Dathomir.

Tried more combinations of calling strong pets and droids but couldn't pull any rancor missions. Customer remembered he'd unequipped his VKs. Got a mission.

First rancor aggroed. Customer and pet jump in to help me out. Scratch one rancor. Reminded customer not to attack the wildlife unless otherwise instructed. It would be remiss of me not to mention that he paid heed, and no more creatures were wasted. Unfortunately his pet was less attentive, and rushed to rescue me next time I got aggro. Cue the strange sight of me running away peacing the beast only to turn round and chase after it, taunt it away from the pet then finally run away peacing again until it finally gave up.

On to Endor. Got the samples I needed. Called my droid to start crafting. Consulted my notes and prepared to make the template. Time for the first hitch of the day. Whether it was due to UI lag, not paying attention or what, I managed to select the wrong sample. I'd wanted rancor in aggression to get stun/intimidate. I don't know what I actually used but my mistake became apparent when the template came out AR0 with crippling/dizzy and the rancor sample I wanted stubbornly remained in my inventory.

Attempt number two. Taking special care to choose the right samples I constructed a pretty decent template and first generation clone. Tried to sample it and *poof* - deed destroyed and no sample.

Needed more merek harvester samples for attempt three. Didn't take long to find some wandering around. Took some samples. Crafted first generation clone and successfully sampled it. Started constructing the second (and final) generation template. With four points left I asked the customer which slot(s) he'd like me to experiment on. Explained the consequences of working on each slot and after a few minutes' discussion we decided I'd boost aggression and psychological. This I did. I was on the last screen of the crafting process when suddenly one of the mereks decided to aggro me. My scent was masked (as was the customer's) and I was sitting doing nothing (as was the customer). Nonetheless this particular merek got it into his head to aggro me and my crafting session was hence ended; the template and samples lost.

Grabbed some more merek samples and set about making first generation number four. But fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. This time I made sure to run out of aggro range before loading my samples. Only problem was: my droid didn't follow me. By the time I assembled the template he was out of range. I couldn't experiment...

Take five! First generation went well. Resampled. Started second generation. Believe it or not, Fate had another cruel hand to deal. First experiment in physique failed. Second was a great success and we're back to where we started. Third experiment ... failed. Fourth was a success. Half my experiment points down just getting AR1.

Luckily the rest of the crafting was successful and the customer was delighted with the finished product. Even wanted to buy the crippling/dizzy "anomaly" into the bargain. He left with an enhanced appreciation of what goes into making pets and I left thankful I'd used most of my quota of bad luck for the next few weeks.

You sound like me recently...
I didn't have time to get the DNA I needed myself, so I hired another BE to get it. Paid 200k for the 10 samples, he got em and everything.

2 critical failures in a row.

Oh how life is so cruel...
