Hey there all,

All of my crafting is done, just working my way through the DNA tree (about 6k from DNA 3) so all is going well...

Question first...

Are there any creatures that give some decent DNA xp to speed this up a bit while I'm not AFk grinding this? Maybe someone could list a few mob's that give decent XP...Thanks.

Advice part now...

Just got Novice BE and realise that DNA is quite a long drawn out process? follow these guidelines and it will be a lot easier.

Go and buy yourself an MSE Droid, there are always some on the bazaar, train it up with a name that is simple, mine is named (mouse), see the DE forums if you don't know how to do that.

NextI will list the macro that I am using, the only flaw with it (it has been running non stop for 2 days now) is that there is no built in way to delete DNA in your inventory, so you will have to do it manually.

DO NOT JUST COPY AND PASTE THIS, there are notes beside some commands that will cause problems in the macro, if you do copy and paste, make sure you delete those first. Copy only green text, not the yellow

/ui action targetGroup0;

/ui action cycleTargetOutward; <--- This targets next closest target in field of view

/follow;

/pause 7;

/sampleDNA;

/pause 11;

/sampleDNA;

/pause 11;

/attack;<----- This stops the CU problem of not auto attacking, makes sure yard trash dies if it attacks you

/pause 3;

/attack;

/pause 3;

/attack;

/pause 3;

/tar (mouse); - <--- These 5 points get you back into the middle of the yard trash if you happened to run away

/pause 3; -

/follow; -

/pause 5; -

/stopfollow; -

/pause 1;

/sit;

/target self; <----- This is self explanatory, heals you if you took damage

/bactashot;

/pause 5;

/bactashot;

/pause 5;

/bactashot;

/pause 5;

/stand;

/pause 5;

/macro newDNA; <---- This is what I named my macro, this is the command that loops it over and over

This macro is an evolution of the other ones that are posted here, I see a lot of people asking for advice but they get pointed to the stickies, which just seem to have a few problems, like running off out of the yard trash range. I only take credit for the parts I have added.

Now, to start this macro:

1 Head to Mos Eisley or similar, go stand in the middle of a good spawn of "yard trash" and call your droid, give him 2 or 3 patrol points (the "stay" command seems to be bugged, mine kept running away) and order him to "patrol".

2 Zoom out and up, so you are looking at the top of your avatars head, this causes your avatar to only target what you can see in your screen view, which eliminates the problem of targetting Mos Eisley Police, I got a ticket the other day for sticking one withmy needle, he didn't appear to like it too much.

3Press "Ctrl+Shift+S" which will start your HUD spinning (make sure you have yourmouse pointerup, not your targeting reticule)

4 Then just start your macro by clicking on the icon (if it is in your toolbar) or just typing /macro newDNA (or whatever you called it). To stop your macro type /dump or make that into a macro on your toolbar too.

5 Now the only thing to worry about is your inventory size, periodically open it up and delete the trash DNA.

This macro is a slow one, but that doesn't matter if you are AFK grinding anyways...it works without a problem...

Enjoy

SMALL UPDATE...

Buy a crate of Droid Batteries, your droid will run out of power after a small while, it will keep patroling but after a server reset or having to store it it will not accept any commands...

This is so funny. I posted a macro today too before I read your post. Weird.

Well ... afk - grinding ... non-afk-grinding .... we're not supposed to do it ... it's tedious to sit there and do it manually ... I compromise and run my afk macros when I'm cleaning up the kitchen and doing laundry and stuff around my desk - working as well ... that way I'm not REALLY afk but it's a fine line.

Bottom line is - the crafting/dna sampling grind is tedious .... you are right that we pay to play the game Kao ... not to afk-macro but ... there isn't any CHALLENGE to grinding this tree ... it's not engaging ... it's just frustrating and tedious. Less tedious than cleaning up the kitchen and that says a lot ...

Hehe, yeah i was only kidding in my last post hence the 'you're a bad bad,bad bad man' hehe.

But on a more serious note, it is against the CoC to macro unatended, so anyone who uses a macro that loops please make sure you are physically there and watching the screen ready to reply incase a CsR pounces on you, i know a couple of people who have had their accounts suspended fro afk macroing and it's not nice to come back to the keyboard and find you have been booted fromthe game and can't gt back on.

I have very recently confirmed this both in ticket form and in live chat:

looping afk macros are ok ~IF~ the macro is all in-game. (no 3rd party macro programs)

So feel free to set up your grinds with afk in-game macros. They are not against the rules, and they are 'working as intended'. I really recomend some simple ones for simple things because grinding is not playing, it's mindless repetition just to prove you really really really want to be a master of that profession.

I use afks for grinding xp on pets. Sometimes I do this with 2 toons at the same time too

Oh this is very good news Lucha ... I hate thinking that I'm on the edge of doing something wrong when I loop macro afk ... that means I can expand to cleaning the rest of the house too then? Wait - this is NOT good news

You're a bad bad, bad bad man, i would never advocate afk grinding to anyone, what's the point? you pay to play the game not set macro running and let it play itself.

This works like a charm. FYI if you let your droid's battery run out, it'll just sit there like a rock. Much better than assigining patrol points, and gets around the "stay" problem.

Well, i use this macro, and its not a afk macro as your inventory fills up in about 15-20min.

ui action targetSelf;
/ui action cycleTargetOutward;

/stand;

/pause 0.5;

/sampleDNA;

/pause 0.5;

/sit;

/pause 10;

And I use a pet and having it to guard me. If you sampel outside a star port do you only need a low lvl pet, and make around 15-20k xp per H

I ground the ENTIRE sampling tree in 4 days using this (holiday weekend)... First off, get a Bio Engineer buff from your local dancer, it's a whopping 15% buff to experience. Then to delete your inventory, just hover over the first spot and Right Click + 2 (2 = delete), after disabling delete confirmation. You can turbo delete inventory using this while watching TV.

Then sit back and occasionally watch your toon get XP, refresh buffs, etc.

4 days isn't bad for a mostly automated system. I already grinded BE a long time ago (pre-CU), didn't really want to sample grind again.

currently I am a 0104 BE and my CL is 13. I am considering ginding out full BE, as a level 13 could I get sample xp from low level creatures outside ciyies?

CL doesn't have anything to do with your ability to sample, but your lack of the DNA tree will.

you'll be able to sample outside of most cities without much of a problem.

remember, mask scent is your best friend.
