Thread: How to live as a Clonegineer?

Advice please.

I'm a part-time bio-engineer from Corellia, and a "rest of the time" Doctor.

I love running around, sampling DNA from vicious creatures, and turning it into critters never intended. I specialize in poisonous durni. (Don't ask me why. I just figure the little Bat-Rabbits need some evolutionary help...) The problem is, they don't move. My house is CRAWLING with little venom-bunnies. I can't seem to sell them, either tamed or untamed.

Is there any way to make a living cloning critters? All I ever read about are food additives. Is chef-helper only viable income-source for a BE? I make most of my money on meds and bufs as a doc. Lucrative, but not very creative from a laboratory / factory creation sense.

So...

Any ideas on how to convice the Galaxy to fill its' inventories and datapads monsters from my wildest imagination?

Tell me how to live the life of my dreams and get out of the Rat race at Coronet General.

THX!

Well, I guess you have several choices:

a) somehow figure out a way to get a vendor in a location that has a decent amount of foot-traffic.

b) do a lot of starport spamming (it would seem to me that you could probably combine this activity with buffing)

c) advertise in your galaxy trade forum

d) keep your master BE title up and deal with the "random tell" business.

I manage to sell maybe a couple hundred k worth of pets a week without really putting too much effort into the selling part of it. I don't wear my title, don't advertise, but just have a nice shop filled with a variety of different things, and rely on random "walk-ins" and repeat visitors. But pet selling is a pretty low-volume market these days.

I think that if I were doing the doctor/bio engineering template I'd probably try to leverage my doctor skills as much as possible to support my pet making endeavors. Obviously you can make primo pet stims easily with that combo, and you also can serve a lot of people as a doctor, either through a store with your products or in-person with your buffing. So I'd probably try to take advantage of that "traffic"as much as I could.

Realistically though, I think a master doc/master be combo would be problemetic without a second account, in fact I don't see how you could do it well. A quick look at the character builder tells me you wouldn't even have enough skill points for novice artisan, much less merchant, survey etc.

And therein lies the rub. No vendor, not even full master BE. Throw in some rifle skill to keep the ditty-bag filled with decent meat at less than a gazillion CPU (and the critters and swoopers at bay), and I have to hoof it to peddle it. I am also a low level artisan and a surveyor, so I can keep the stims going out with only labor as overhead. But I have no vendor so I sell my meds to Non-docs with vendors and grinders in the hospital. It works, but I long for a life in the lab custom-designing super-durni.

I make very good clones and can churn out a durni more or less to spec. Non-CH's tend to like the level 10s with the heavy poison or disease, but that takes it's toll on the HAM, so folks are leery about trading out another pet (no new players around for weeks, it seems). I'd hoped I was missing something obvious I could take advantage of in my skillset and daily lifestyle that could help me shift further towards the mad scientist route.

Should I alter my skillsets? And if so, in what ways might I go?

Thanks!

Any further ideas / advice welcome.

what is your template exactly? If you list it I might be able to comment better.

you really cant make a living as a cloner without MBE.....that being said, there are some niches for dabblers. Unfortunately, you'll never sell those durnis - they may be funny, but even if they're nonCH, poison specials are worthless and durnis are very slow compared to other skins like cats. There's basically 5 categories of creatures that will reliably sell:

CL70 MCH pets, with the emphasis here on cramming in everything......armor, massive HAM, massive DPS, resists across the board and specials

CL35 twins, again with armor and resists and specials, HAM expectably in the 12k and up range, and as much damage as you can manage

CL22/23 triplets...armor and max kin are possible with these, and then a good variety of specials and HAM in the 11k and up range

NonCH tanks...CL10 and below, with 55% or more kin resist and HAM around 10k6k4k achievable, specials to assist tanking such as intim and stun, or CS/dizzy for NPCs

NonCH mounts, again cl10 or below, banthas seem to be most popular though cu pa and kaadu, and dewbacks sometimes too, will sell. Stats arent important on these usually.

Of those five categories, the only one a dabbler can do is the last. You can make a lot of money, comparatively, just harvesting the scrub mobs around starports and stuff and tossing together crappy banthas, which can sell for 6k on the bazaar. You'll make way more money as a buffing doc, though, but itsusually enough supplemental income for grinders to buy resources, at least. There might not be as much demand as there used to be, but I regularly sold out a full set (max amount of listings posted) of mounts on the Coronet zaar in 1-2 days. Just remember to name them something specific like 'CL9 Non-CH Mountable Bantha'

I agree, however, I think it might be difficult to make a living as a cloner at all. I use tissues to support my cloning habit--uh, I mean hobby.

That being said, is a recipe for that 10/6/4 intim/stun 55% kin resist level 10 posted somewhere? That is far better than anything I've ever achieved. Hmmm. Maybe that's why I'm not making any money as a cloner
