Thread: Shellfish Harvesting Bug?

I remember seeing a vendor with shellfish harvesting tools, and so I go and get one (I've used one before on another character and it was fine). All excited for the prospect of finding mollusk meat, I start harvesting. "You have found Crustacean Meat" YAY!. Find a few, stack them up (WHY OH WHY can't they autostack?), then I get the message saying I've found Mollusk meat. I eagerly pop open my inventory to inspect the stats, yet there was no mollusk meat to be found. I was not amused.

So, I did a /bug. Have any of you experienced this?

did you try harvesting a few more times? it might have just been a server hiccup or something, try some more...shellfish harvesting always worked fine for me. Mollusk and crustacean have an equal chance of harvest, so its not like mollusk is so rare you cant afford to lose one sampling of it =)

Oh the mollusks did "harvest" according to the system messages I was receiving. It's just they didn't appear in my inventory. Then again, I hadn't tried relogging to see if that would help. I guess I'll find out later today.

The devs have decided that the collecting of Mullusk would be too easy if it stacked automatically... I mean you could just run a macro to harvest mullusk and acually be able to get enough of it to use. I think because it would be considered an AFK macro that they would probably not fix it. oh well, the chefs barrels are still broke since they were introduced into the game 8 months ago (or has it been longer?) The developers suck at fixing bugs... or should I say they overlook them. they could have them fixed if they just worked on them. they just don't work on them.

Did they really say that? If they really had decided such a thing, then that would imply they think that the "cover" tissue is much more powerful than the others and that's not really the case right? I mean heck, I have a rifleman and could obviously have a "cover" suit made for free for him but chose not to because I don't think it's all that useful. Also I've only gotten maybe 2-3 requests for it in clothing in the year since it's been implemented.

The other thing is that recall that the mollusk harvester was implemented at the same time as they implemented milk harvesting. And milk doesn't stack either, and I don't think one could claim that this was to avoid macro-ing right? So I dunno, to me it's more likely just a bug.

they didn't acually say that, or I haven't read it any where. Just making my own assumptions based of past performance of the developers.

but it is probably just a bug, I doubt they put it there to prevent macroing.. I always had the question "can you use mullusk meat in BE tissues as a creature food?" I haven't tried it but I should, if we were able to do that, and the bug was fixed so that the mullusk auto stacks then we could then have a way to get the large quantites of meat by running macros when we sleep.

but to answer your question I don't think that the devs think that the cover tissue is too powerful, I think they think it is too easy to collect meat in general without having to kill something to get it. And if it can be used in other tissues as a generic "creature food" then they would definatly not want that to happen. Someone should check that out.. Can mullusk or crustacean be used as a generic "creature food?"

but then again if they made it so the mullusk or milk would auto stack, then it would make it seems as if the BE have to scrounge less for their ingridients. That has to be an inside joke to the devs, "lets make the BE have to use an ingredient that sucks to get, and when they do get it they only get 5 units of it, and make sure it doesn't auto stack, that would be soooo funny!"

Anyways, auto-stacking wasn't the issue. The issue was I was getting a system message that I'd harvested mollusk meat but it did not appear in my inventory.

I know it's a 'stupid' question, but did you check to make sure your inventory wasn't full already?

I had loads of room. Anyways, when i relogged the next day, everything was fine (not that what i had "harvested" the night before appeared. High weirdness, it was.
