Thread: Help: 3 basic questions I don't see in the FAQ

When I successfully experiment on a DNA template, it almost always drops one of the experiment's affectedattributesto 1 (while raising the other). I've been a part-timeBE for a long time and I always assumed that everyone had this problem, but not seeing it in the FAQ makes me wonder. Maybe I just missed it? It seems like the FAQ discusses other successful experimentation without mentioning this.

When I sample a creature, the creaturetemporarily gets my faction alignment (at least it appears that way to me...if I'm neutral its name turns from yellow or red to white, if I'm Rebel it turns purple, etc.). What's going on there, anyone know? Do I need to worry about anything like someone killing the creature getting a TEF at that time?

With the recent patch, the schematics for creatures no longer show what qualities in the food & flora are used in the crafting, and you can't experiment. I assume this is all part of the "creature is totally defined by the DNA" thinking, but the FAQ still alludes to using good-quality food & flora. Is that part of the FAQ out of date? It looked like some comments about that were post-patch.

Thanks for any answers. Again, sorry if these are in the FAQ and I missed them. I know the top posts in the FAQ's are pre-patch; maybe Talthazar could let those drop off and sticky a new FAQ based on the new patch?

On the first point I have not seen one stat rise as one falls. In some cases yes but not in the majority of instances.

No, you don't need to worry about getting a TEF or the animla getting a TEF. Essentially Keldarin did a very crude hack whereby the animal is 'adopted' for a short period of time and is classed as a pet. They gain your faction but only you and other members of your faction can see that.

Yes, the FAQ is painfully out of date under the current system.

Wow...all this time I've been assuming this was just a bug everyone saw.

Pretty much every time I experiment a DNA template and get success, one of thetwo paired stats drops to 1. So if I have a template with 251 int and 185 cleverness and I experiment on the mental component and get any kind of success, int will go up (to, say, 260) and cleverness will drop to 1.

It's bizarre to think that this is only happening to me...I wonder what's up? I have not been raising my experimentation/assembly skills (the 4th column) at all, mostly for this reason, but I wonder if that's actuallythe cause of my issues.

Might be a bit of a bug with submasters, honestly I haven't known any sub-masters to pay that much attention to what they're doing

I was experiencing the same thing. I qualified for, and leveled up to Engineering Techniques II last night, and immediately went to crafting DNA Templates. Not only was my experimentation failure rate alot better (about 20% for one point, and 30% for all three - compared to 45% for one point), but I no longer recieve the drop to 1 on the 'secondary' stat of what I am experiementing on.

So I would suggest getting to that point at least. That, and you get alot more good sucesses and higher.

Which experiment result are you getting when experimenting? As a Master BE my results are usually restricted to "Great Success" or "Failure".... I've got a handfull of other results. Only one time did I get a "Success" and when I did it raised one, dropped one.

I've noticed the faction change on critters when sampling. It also occurs when you are taming a baby. Not really sure why the change occurs.

Flora / Meat qualities don't matter at alll on clones now. The FAQ is out of date until we get this system figured out to have an equally useful document to replace Mattakar's cloning guide written.

The "faction change" you see when sampling/taming a baby is probably put in to make it not possible for other players to initiate an attack on what you're sampling/taming.

I used to be a master CH, now spend all of my time as mayor of a city on ahazi, but i like to skim the boards, and noticed that noboday stated the reason im sure for the faction change when sampling or taming. Its to keep people from attacking the creature you are working with or accidently doing so yourself. While sampling/taming it changes and nobody is able to attack the creature unless you fail. Hope that helps, and good luck to all you BEs, wished you guys had all these great powers when I was CH. Have Fun.

Thanks Amtgard, I'll go ahead and pick up the 2nd box then...I'm already qualified for it, but I thought it might only make things worse until they fixed this "bug", but it sounds like I can "fix" it myself =).

Sumo, my successes are mostly just plain success with some 'ok' or moderate success. Maybe there's an issue with lesser successes...

Make sure you put that into the Publish Bugs thread.... if that is a success for those without Engineering II, there is something really bad goign on in the system that the devs need to see.

This is a great example of something a Master can't see in the system.... but its just as important as all the other problems we're seeing.
