Thread: How can 2 similar pets have vastly different CL?

I was quite pleased with myself the other day, I made my first armoured pet. It is a CL 37 Squall , 10k-ish HAM, 42 kinetic resistance and some other assorted resists (but vulnerabilities too) and was made using the formula DMA in physique, TMB everywhere else and consequently has strong poison and dizzy attack in its specials. Damage is nothing to shout about, around 260 - 270, I think.
I was standing at Coronet, waiting for a reply from someone who wanted a non-ch bunny and i see someone spamming a CL 16 pet with light armour, 10k HAM and 50 kinetic resistance, or something like that. How can 2 pets with outwardly similar stats have such vastly different CLs? How can generational cloning produce such a creature? As far as I'm aware, the final CL is dependant on the final stats, not the source of the DNA samples. My creation was certainly not out of this world, it just escapes how a pet like this can be made and be valid (if it is valid, that is).

When we BioEngineer pets we play one stat off against another, sacrificing a little of stat x to get better stat y.

There are stats that appear on the template but not on the final creature combine - these 'invisible stats' make all the difference.
For example, you're creating a CL 10 pet, you want the highest HAM possible, so you experiment on the HAM stats, then take a generation sample, the pyschological and aggression stats go down with each generation since you havent experimented on them, so even though the pets look similar there are subtle differences.
Another problem is the way CL is calculated from the template.
The final combine of the creature has certain minimum values for stats, for example with power under 50 you could have a creature with 30-40 damage - however, you can take the power all the way down to 1 and the damage will still be the same, but the CL will be calculated as lower because of the it.

OK, I think I understand what you're getting at. So if I were to take 5 samples from the squall I mentioned above and recombine them, experimenting in Physique, would I be able to maintain the armour, but the Cl would be lower due to the lack of experimentation in mental / aggression? Bear in mind I only have 2 experimentaion points to play with.

Take your original DNA samples all from 1 creature, combine them and experiment on an attribute with your 2 points, then resample the clone - see the difference, the new clone will be weaker than the original, and the DNA from him will be weaker still.

While I agree with everything NancyJ hs said so far there is something more going on as well. I've been experimenting with pure Mantgrue Reaper clones lately to test a theory. All my tests so far have been first generation clones. The final CL of the creatures I get seem to very from 45 to 51. They all have identical specials (none), identical armor (light), identical resists (40/40/70/1/70/70/70/70) and identical damage (390-400). The HAM's are all in the same ball park 10K-11K. They all have0.45 to 0.5to hit. They all havegood speeds, 1.98 or 1.99. The CLs do not seem to be effected by the sum of the final 10 attributes. My lowest total attribute was actually the CL 51. The CL 45 had same great attribute (Top 25% of my creatures). My theory is that when we create thecreature, a CL is computed and then "adjusted" according to what sort of result we get.

Hey I experienced that myself From'mirrl. I lost my original squall after sampling it too much, so made another from a virtually identical template (DMA, TMB TMB TMB TMB) and it came out with virtually identical stats, but CL 29.

Just a comic aside, I was training the second squall whilst waiting for a shuttle, and some Novice CH came over and laughed at him, so I said "Check his stats". He then shut up, smiled at me, smiled at my armoured bunny and went on his way.

Were the templates near identical or just final pet stats?

All the numbers on the template contribute to the CL even if they dont contribute to the final pet.

EG - a pet with fortitude 500 will have light armour and so will one with 600, given the rest of the numbers are simliar the one with 600 foritude will have a higher CL even though the pets will look the same

Don't know if it relates or not, but as I play around more it seems that there are random factors adding some variation to sampling and combines-experimentation.

We're only being shown 6 (??) buckets like amazing success, etc but the actual combine (IMO) represents a real number so it ends up being like applying a letter grade to a percent test score. And we have no backward reference on the pet combine itself...
