Thread: Possibly going BE... should I?

BE can be very rewarding, but as Kevm suggests, it depends what you are looking for.

- If you love playing with numbers to see how your results change, all of our crafting provides that.

- Finding the perfect creature to sample DNA from provides a very different experience than you will get in any other crafting profession (taming creatures would be the only analogous system in the game).

- Coming up with the ultimate pet recipe is tons of fun.

- If you like rooting around for the best resources in the galaxy, we have need of them.

- We have three very distinct lines with tissues, pet stims and pets. Stims are fairly forgiving so if you want something simple to craft you can. Tissues require the work in getting good resources. Pets are a system unto themselves. The great thing is you can switch between them as your mood dictates.

Well being a former Science teacher (Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry) at a local high school... this line of work sounds very challenging... as well as rewarding.

I picked up from reading all the excellent guides on these threads that a lot of thought has gone into the BE profession. Granted... it may still be buggie, but there are a lot of buggie parts still left in SWG.

Here is a good question...

Okay, I decide I want to master the BE profession. Should I "master" it first by grinding, then learn it or should I take my time learning as I go? Opinions again are requested.

My advice would be yes. The tissues, additives, and petstims are very basic (especially since you've come from a crafting background with DE). All of the first layer tailor tissues are replaced by better ones the higher you go up the tree and there isn't a huge market for the lower tissues.

I would say its ok to grind the tissue and engineering lines. The creature line just gives you new skins as you go so its a candidate for grinding too. What I would do though is once you get to sampling 2, use the DNA you gather and start making pets. You wont make the best pets since you wont have the best DNA, and depending on where you are in the Engineering line you may not have many experiment points. But this way you can start learning the creature creation process, which is very complicated and you'd be better off getting to know it before you make MBE. That way you would actually feel you know enough to start the real fun of the profession.

Edit: one more thing. If you do grind the tissue lines, make sure you know what all the schematics DO and what resources you'll need for them. Its sad when there's a Master who comes asking what his, or her, schematics are for.

Ah... good advice. I will note that point about knowing the schematics... hehe. Grinding can be soo easy sometimes that you forget to actually LEARN the trade.

Anyone else?

as someone who recently mastered and is doing their best to work it all out...i really don't think that it matters. either way you'll end up getting to master and not knowing a ton about the profession...as i like to say, i am a "novice MBE"

Just looking at some of the guides... phew... it was refreshing to see the depth at which experienced MBE's were going into about the trade. Frankly, it sounds very challenging and down right... well fun!

Architect and DE are extremely boring... not much left to chance... at least with BE you have the aspect of DNA that can be a wild trigger. Granted, I guess it all comes down to numbers, but the BE gets to get out of the house more often.

I think that those that don't like BE have complaints like:

"it's too buggy"

"I can't figure it out"

"I have no idea what I'm doing"

"I just want to craft like I do in other crafting professions"

"I hate not being able to mass produce my products because I can't harvest everything from harvesters"

"Making pets takes too much effort"

"I die too much sampling animals, that's no fun"

Those that like BE:

"it's challenging"

"it's different"

"I like figuring things out on my own"

"I like how my abilities and knowledge matters more than those of my toon"

"I like that our products are difficult to make, thus rare"

"I like travelling and risking my neck to dna sample the badest of the bad animals"

Which camp you fall into, only you can answer.

Well there are many aspects to MBE. First you have the resource collection Areas that can be consuming in their own unless you just pay for everything like I do. There is the factory crafting as you are already used to by now. This area is pretty straightforward I would guess, just lay down 10 Food Factories or as many or as little as you want to spend crafting, Just remember that most of our items only have one stage but last for 2-3days in the machine to make a full run.

Then there is the sampling. If you have a choice reroll your character if you plan on sampling The reason I suggest this is so you can have the extra +10 from being that dog species(not the wookie maybe bothen???) Anyways That gives you an extra +10 to mask scent to go along with your +16ish mask scent clothing. With this combo you can get keep only 4040scout instead of going Master. If you dont want to reroll then its not to terribly bothersome with just 4040scout and +16 from clothes. Just depends what you are sampling. But most high end content isnt too hard to sample, just a couple critters at the very top of the scale that can keep unmasking you.

From here you need to decide what type of Sampler you want to be. Do you want to make the best possible for resale, Do you want to make the best ethically possible for resale or do you want to just have fun seeing what you can come up with on your own??? Once you figure this out you will know pretty easily how to progress.

You can pursue all areas or just selected ones, but BE provides the most depth out of all crafting professions! Just go out GRINDING out the class and then you will have a good idea soon enough how you want to play.

Yes I said grind! Get to the top of the profession as soon as you can, because there isnt any real fun on the way to the top in my opinion.

Why limit yourself to +16 Mask Scent clothing when you can max it out at +25?

While Bothans are quite superior, I would not advise re-rolling to get our bonuses. They apply to cover and conceal, not maskscent. Besides needing to be a Ranger to get conceal, the skill is more of a pain and no improvement upon maskscent.

Actually you can have a lot of fun before master and make a lot of cash doing it.

Your best bet is a mixture of grinding and playing properly, if you grind your way to clones 1 you can make dewbacks and cupa with yard trash DNA, put your 1 experiment point in physique and you'll have a bag of cl 9 mounts you can sell on the bazaar at 5k each and make a nice little profit to pay for more meat

When you're at DNA 2 or 3 you can do voritor dasher missions and make some decent cl 10 tank pets, if you have clones 2 you can put them in cat skins and the higher up engineering you get the better you can make them.

Since you have to be out there DNA sampling for that tree you might as well make some money out of it and use the DNA you're sampling.

BE has the advantage of being the only craft that doesnt require you to be a master.

nice comments... I doubt I will reroll... but it gives me more to think about. I want to be prepared before I jump into the deep end with this...

Again... I really to appreciate the sincere comments (very refreshing).

This is for my alt crafter...

I am currently a Master DE, Architect, and Artisan. I am thinking of giving up DE and Architect to go MBE. I also have Merchant skills too. I am aware of having to have Scout and Medic skills... the question is should I do this?

I am looking for opinions and I figured the boards are usually full of them.

My main char is a TKM and working on his MCH. He has Medic skills for support too and will probably go Master Scout.

Lastly... the motivation to change profs is simple... to keep the game fresh. I am financially well off... and I have a resource business that does well, so money is not really a factor.

Fire away...
