Hi. I was an early master BE, who helped develop the guides for the first creature system and then the second creature system. But I really got burned out. What has changed significantly for BE int he past 8 months or so? Have we recieved more creature types? A broader range of high level things to sample? New tissues? Is there still a market for petstims? Do ceatures decay enough to make vitality packs matter? Did the chef food improvements give us a market that is now worth pursuing? Can we finally get decent numbers of eggs and fish?

No, you can't get a decent amount of eggs or fish, you still get more samples of worthless live beees from the lairs, than you do eggs. They did add a slot for the tissues called Research Data. I guess this stuff is supposed to give you a little higher numbers on your tissues, but the actuall item to put in the slot has never existed and still does not and probably will not for another year or so.

but chefs buy up BSN's like crazy so they can make Vasarian Brandy.. any other food is pretty rare and costs LOTS of money

Not much.

Have we recieved more creature types?
No.

A broader range of high level things to sample?
No, smapling is still capped at cl75

New tissues?
The chef tissues got a revamp, we now have 12 but only really 3 that sell.

Is there still a market for petstims?
Yes, if you can get the resources.

Do ceatures decay enough to make vitality packs matter?
Not really

Did the chef food improvements give us a market that is now worth pursuing?
Yes

Can we finally get decent numbers of eggs and fish?
Not really

CH's are not as plentiful as they once were. vit packs aren't much in demand, and petstim demand varies wildly by server and community.

BioE has the same cloning foibles and options that it had when you left (I think... if you worked on the last iteration of cloning. if not, cloning changes are HUGE), and nonCH pets are still in demand even if CH pets are less sought after.

chefs want ALL our tissues NOW. as much meat/etc and as many factories as you can get, you'll never fill the orders of these hungry crafters.

tailors want our tissues, but since clothing is a buy-it-once-and-never-replace-it deal, they're not turning out the volume that chefs are.

I'm not certain where I fit into the scheme of pet creation changes. They had just revamped the whole system about a month or two before I left, and had been bitching about super powered level 10 creatures. Surveying the board, I see there is still a lot of concern about it. I was the one to put a guide here on how to get cl10's with high hams on a single combine with that new system, which looks like it was built upon to get even crazier stuff now. Have they messed with the system in saythe past 6 months?

The only change to the system in that time was the addition of a really really poorly implemented attempt to deal with the CL 10 problem by inserting an "invalid stats" check at the time when you call the pet. The check will kick in, and give the user an option to adjust the stats or adjust the CL on certain pets that the check function deems to be "overpowered". The problem is that the check only seems to catch certain very underwhelming pets, generallycreated by novices strangely enough. It doesn't seem to touch any of the merek-harvester derived super-pets.

Nothing has really changed much in the past 8 months. Mask scent still gets broken regularly by kreetles even with a full set of mask scent clothing. You can still make CL10 animals with 10K HAM and 60% kinetic resist which are valid animals (you can make a CL10 with 1500 HAM that will more often than not be declared invalid so go figure).

No new creature types and the colors for some of the animal types still don't stick when they're tamed. Nothing new there either.

You can sample anything CL75 but there are no new animals in that range. So again, nothing new there.

Creatures still decay at the same rate they did when you left. I make 10 vita packs for my vendor. Its not uncommon to have to put them back up for sale multiple times before they actually are sold.

Pet stims still sell but not nearly as well as they used to. Creature handlers are as rare as Jedi were supposed to be. The "combat balance" only creature handlers got pretty much killed off the profession. Those that are left remind me of Arizona Cardinal fans. They cling to the profession but they sure are bitter about it.

Chef tissues has made millionaires out of us all. Getting stacks of 20K meat with good stats sure can be a trick though.

What are eggs and fish? I see your mouth moving and I hear noises but its not making any sense.

"Getting around is much easier. Speeders are fast. Most planets have player cities all over the place with shuttle ports. Wait times at shuttle/starports were reduced from 5 minutes to 10 minutes. These are very positive changes."

Man, I've been playing City of Heroes, with a character that has super speed on top of that. Speeders existed before I left, but they still seem ....so .... slow.

"Pets havebeen replaced by buffs." Ugh. They did pets all wrong from the start. Pets should be about offense, not defense. Modern weapons tear animals apart. Animals tear people apart, lol.

but, that is disheartening. The game balance has gone from bad to worse, it sounds like.

"You can writea simple macro ..." Yeah, I was doing that before I left with Mutant Rancors. Another thing that used to work would be to get them fighting, help one kill the other (for exp), hit mask scent just as the first died, and you could sample the second one several times before it thought to notice you.

"We're all hoping the mythical combat rebalance will change everything" LOL, thats what we were doing when I left!

Man, maybe I shouldn't bother. CoH is fun but pointless. it sounds like this is still a grind, and pointless.

I'm in a similar situation to you... mastered BE under the old system, left a bit after the new system came in, and am now an old dog having a blast learning new tricks.

Here are some things that have changed:

  • Getting around is much easier. Speeders are fast. Most planets have player cities all over the place with shuttle ports. Wait times at shuttle/starports were reduced from 5 minutes to 10 minutes. These are very positive changes.

  • Pets havebeen replaced by buffs. Doctors now offer buffs at major locations that make players more or less invulnerable. There's no need any more to have a pet to tank when you can be your own tank. There are also new combat droids usable by anyone, but I don't actually see them being used in the field. (See above re being your own tank.) As far as I can tell, CH's are more or less restricted to people who use pets for RP reasons.

  • There is no longer any risk to sampling. You can writea simple macro that allows you to hop off your speederbike, start sampling and then hop right back on again. Then if the creature aggros, you can speed out of dodge. You can also get buffed before sampling, which makes dying a true embarrassment.

  • We're all hoping the mythical combat rebalance will change everything.
