Thread: is it just me, or does no one else see that cl's are horribly bugged now?

We have seen many times, in both our own forums, and in the Creature Handler Forums, that Creature Levels (CL) will now be determined solely by a creatures stats. Personally I think this is the right way to go about assigning CL, especially when it comes to BE made creatures. It is the only way to really get a comparison between our pets and ones found in wild.

What I have come to notice, (and forgive me everyone, I dont want to take away your "uber" pets you are making) is that CL's are bugged. I have made a CL 5 spat with <1k ham. Very understandable. I have also made a CL 5 vir vur with 6k/4k/2k ham. Even with some adjustment for BE's being able to make pets with higher stats for a given CL (which I also agree with, otherwise, whats the use?) this difference does not make any sense. Looking at the thread "uber non-ch pets" there are some examples in there that rival any cl20-25 found in the wild.

What is the logical extension of these 'experiments'? I see a galaxy populated by 9k ham cl 10 vir vur / durni's, seeing as everyone in the game can use them if they are CL 10 or less. IMO, while this may be good for BE's in the short term, it is not good for the game, nor for BE's in the long run.

Please, am I just not understanding what CL represents? Or am I misunderstanding what the Dev's were trying to achieve with the recent balancing issues? If you can enlighten me, please please do....

There is a real oddness to it, even at mid-levels. I made two creatures using the exact same dna sets, experimented the exact same points, and put them in the same skin. Both had the same resists, but one had 1k more HAM and 50 more damage - while being a lower CL.

another thing I was curious about, has anyone been able to transfer one of those upper level CL 10 and below pets to a non ch? Everytime I try, I get the message that "that person has too many pets, transfer cancelled".

Does this have anything to do with resistances being too high? or that non ch's cant use pets with any special attacks?

Let me know please if anyone has had problems transfering what should be non-ch pets to non ch's

Saleb, make sure they don't currently have a pet of any kind currently out.

The CL rating system works but I think the calculations for the bio-eng CL discount is a fair bit off. I've made a direct copy of a Blurrg Sand crawler which is CL43 in the wild but the clone was actually superior a bit and only CL34. So a difference of 10CLs at the higher end of the scale. That sounds like it's a fair bit off, i dont mind them being more powerful but that seems a bit extreme. Having superiority of around 5 ratings is more than enough, 10+ is starting to get stupid.

I completely agree it needs to be fixed; however, I do feel that a BE should be able to make a pet a lower CL than a CH can tame one. For Instance, a 6k HAM pet which is a 20-25 CL for a CH to train whereas a BE making a 6k HAM pet should be able to get it down to about 15-20 with some research and inbreeding.

yes, I do agree that a BE should be able to provide nearly identical pets to those in the wild, at a substantial 'discount' in it's CL. As to that... why isnt there a way for us to experiment DOWN on items... say we want to 'breed' something out of a pet... we shouldnt have to be able to go up all the time if we dont want to.

And still... on the CL note.. I have made a CL 3 with 3k ham.... this just isnt right.. lol

We SHOULD be able to make ubber cl10 pets. BUT it should take alot more than sampling a bugged MOB. I have taken Mutant Rancor DNA - Merek Harvester DNA - Frienzied Graul DNA then made like 6 pets each with specific attributes made higher and cl made lower - I sampled these new clones down and used pieces of each to make my new set of lower cl crits - then sampled them and got some great cl10 pets. this takes me a whole day to make one of these ubber pets. And i can tell you now you are not going to see alot of them running all over town all of the sudden. Now we have ubber rare armor that anyone at any level with money can buy and use. We have ubber Krayt guns that most people in mid marksman can use etc - these items all require some luck and great skill to make. Dont take away our ability to make the ubber cl10 pets just make it hard as hell to do and require some luck as well. My .02 cents.

This is a very noticable change and will be balanced by the devs.

Probably as someone pointed out certain caps will be put in (the devs LOVE caps from what I've seen)

Ham caps, resist caps, and restriction of armor to a specific CL or higher.

Whine, laugh, cry, scream, yell. It's going to happen one way or another. These super pets are in for some "balancing" to be sure.

Meanwhile your techniques probably won't change too much. The technique to create these uber pets will m ost likely remain the best way to get the top notch non-ch pet. So keep pluggin. You might get restricted to 20% resists, and 1500 ham but it still beats 900 ham crap with no resists.

We SHOULD be able to make ubber cl10 pets

No we shouldn't, CL10 has the sole purpose of meaning that it's a weak animal. In the wild almost none of the animals have any kind of resistances what so ever and around 3000 HAM at the most. That means a bio-eng one should be around the same HAM with maybe 5% protection to everything at the extreme end.

Yeah, one reason I haven't just rushed right out to die to uber mobs sampling to make killer lvl 10's - if it looks too good to be true - it probably is.

Why I asked in another thread about relation of CL to stats - there doesn't seem to be any, and logic would indicate something is fouled.

If it's left - well, that's a decision for the devs, but I was around in the days of baby DNA - and that eventually got fixed as well.

I just wish I knew normal boundaries of the CLs so I'd KNOW if I was looking at a windfall (and long overdue attention to BEs) or a bug.

I mentioned this problem and got nothing but flamed for it.

I am all for you're guys' changes. I plan on buying even more pets, I may even give up Master Swordsman for BE for awhile, it sounds fun as hell now.

Though, there is a problem with CL's. Because right now, a pet can be made that a novice CH can use that is just about a good tank as the graul mauler once was...
