Just a novice BE (only have novice box) and cannot harvest DNA at the moment. I went out and was gonna spend a while just sampling, and the first half dozen attempts i got sample on first try.. then the failures started, up to about 150 failures in a row right now.. and still going strong.. anyone have any ideas why?

don't go sample rancors when you only got novice box.... now I'm sure you know that !
get your first DNA sampling box, then go to endor, various pets, various combinations, more experimentation -> you'll have fun (don't forget to clone and insure)

don't try to sample too hogh level creatures, but try to sample the highest you think you can (I'm DNA 2 and I always check the HAM, I sample creatures between 7k and 11k HAM, it works fine, like 1 sample for 2 or 3 failures)

if you see you're doing great with one or two creatures of the same species, get the lairfull !
do destroy missions and challenge to kill all the creatures usng sampling only. that's fun and you get a lot of samples.

forget about the combat and weapon xp when sampling, you better run most of time.

Get some armor, everything but a helmet. A crate of muon gold and a vehicle. If you are trying to sample a high levels.

Customize your DNA macro /peace;/sampled

target the mob sample DNA, target vehicle if you get aggroed use your /mount hotkey and run away! when the aggro breaks go back and try to sample it again
