Thread: Time to punch a holocron- farewell BE community
Well it has been a nice profession for a while, and I am at the point of burnout. I have been in the business since Summer 2003, so I have seen alot. What is clinching it for me now is the recent clueless nerf the Devs put on. I went out in the field this morning, and sampled rock beetles (CL13, 2200 ham, ranged, cripple). Experimenting only psych, mind, and phyique, my resultant clone had worse stats than the wild original, and a higher CL at 14. This is really bad people. We are back in the boat again where wild pets beat BE creations. A bioengineer, master, with experimentation gets a worse pet than wild. I spent weeks figuring out this system and developing creature recipies, then they go and stealth nerf the daylights out of it and change everything all over again, and of course there is still no documentation. I am at my limit for this kind of stuff, and so its off to pistoleer I go.
Those of you who rode your high horse on publically shrieking about NCH exploits can pat yourselves on the back for the present mess this system is in. Its bad enough when the profession is under attack from the outside, but when yourown fellow bioengineers are on the warpath to wreck the system, its time to change careers. Because you raised the visibility of it in such a public fashion, the devs felt pressure to quick nerf, which has resulted in this shoddy quick patch, which leaves our entireclone systemin an unworkable mess. Had you just kept the comments to bug reports, then perhaps we could have had a functioning system until the comprehensive solution was implemented. But because you wanted to feel morally superior by blasting the NCH thing out of proportion, we now have a broken mess. Keep this in mind for next time, and enjoy the fruits of your labors.
The effect of this nerf is spotty. Many existing pets from before the nerf still function, and pet users who got good pets are probably in good shape still. What seems to be going on now is when you clone, you get the same global attribute nerf as before, but now it doesnt reduce the CL in proportion to the attribute nerf. THis is a horrible implementation. The power drops, yet you get no CL credit on that reduction. I tried some with grizzled dews and got a CL19 creature after 1st gen worse than the original.
What bothers me the most about this is the choice SOE made here to trash the entire cloning system in order to silence the whining about NCH pets. The priority list is
1. Stopping exploits
2. Achieving a game which is fun and functioning
This is a pretty bass ackwards way of viewing the game. You have paying customers who want to have fun now, not at some distant patch in the future. You are recieving $15/month to fix a game, not render it into a broken mess.
sorry you feel that way, dude
those pets are the biggest game-breakers i've seen since i started playing
dont care how, but they had to die IMMEDIATELY
or would it be ok for you as a BE if everybody could make their own pet stims and tissues?
cause it aint ok for me as an MCH that everybody could use their own 8k ham creature w/ NO skill pts.
and i am STILL able to make pets (even second gen) better than the wild version...just not 10-freaking-times better
made a 8k ham 60%kin ar1 graul last night....CL 35....250 dmg....find one of those in the wild
anyway, enjoy pistoleer, but please dont tell me this is a nerf...

There is no excuse for a "quick nerf,...shoddy quick patch,...unworkable mess." It is not the BE's fault. The devs should be ashamed and embarrassed by how they handled this. It's still better, though, than it was before the big CH/BE patch as far as making pets CL 30-70, and I don't mind at all seeing so many people posting that they are now leaving the profession because of this hotfix. The quality of the average BE goes up every time one of you leaves.
Don't hate the players, hate the game.
As a MBE I think we should have the flexibility to make creatures such as those that were considered "nerfed" pets, but I think they should be near to impossible to make to minimize every joe blow from having one. And before any of you start flaming me on my opinion about being able to make god like nonCH pets, you'd best go slap the crap of those who have screwed up the economy in game first. Yes, I know they changed the system due to the "unbalanced" combat issue, but that was nothing compared to the BS of the games economy, something that we BE's can't just go throw 125 unitsof something stupid up for 3k .... But I regress.
Being able to make this type of creature would create a comparible income to say, architects, weaponsmiths and armorsmiths which we currently do not have. Tissues you say? Yeah, you get to sellto a tailor andthen watch as they sell the enhanced clothing forastronomical prices that you wouldgetbeat down in game if you even thought tosell athalfof those prices. Pet stims? Well now that CH has been changed and everyone thinks that's nerfed, pet stims are not a hot item anymore.
I guess my point is, is that it's not the BE's who created these pets who are at fault. Its the system. If they wanted BE to be just the support profession that it's been/currently is, then they need to require less skill points, give exact written documentation on what we can and cannot do with creatures and a schematic for CL's, HAM SA's RA's....etc.
Sorry to see yet ANOTHER BE who's put a lot of time and effort into this profession, leave. Come on SOE, pull your heads out of your (as someone, not mentioning names said) *poke-mon*
