Thread: Macro for Easier Sampling on the Fly
I thought I'd share this with everybody, in case it hasn't already been posted before. My hands were getting pretty tired sampling from aggro and non-aggro-but-way-too-tough-to-fight-if-it-gets-angry creatures, what with the hopping off my bike, sampling, and hopping back on to make a speedy getaway in case it got cross with me. So, after some experimentation, I came up with this:
/dismount Speederbike;
/pause 1;
/sampleDNA;
/pause 1;
/mount Speederbike
All's ya do is fly up next to the animal, target it, then hit the macro button. It makes you hop off, sample, and hop back on so you're ready to fly away if the sample goes bad. Yes, it's simple, but it makes things go a little bit faster and it's saved a lot of wear and tear on my fingers so far. I had to put the pauses in since it seems to take a second for the sampling to kick in. It may work for you without them, but didn't for me. I also tried it with an automatic /follow, in cause the creature wandered or bolted, but that just made it a little harder to get away if it turned aggro. I assume /mount Swoopbike, etc would work if you have one of those, but I don't so I couldn't test it. Now if they could just fix that bug where my bike randomly stores itself, leaving me standing in the middle of a red mob and, oops, my maskscent just broke... eeeek...
Note: Should always try to let your bike coast to a complete stop before dismounting, otherwise you might warp some meters away and out of range for remounting.

In all it looks good, the only problem I see with it is that I tend to have a substantially reduced chance of a successful maskscent if i march up to an aggressive critter while still on the bike.
If this downside is acceptable to you, I would suggest adding this to the end of your macro: /follow
Or, you could do what I do, I have a hotkey that is just "/mount Speederbike", and when I get had on a bad sample, I run towards the bike mashing the heck out of it...
