I am a Master Chef and have decided to branch out into bio engineering for many reasons. My primary Character is not a crafter, but my alt is. I was wondering how the DNA sampling works and what advice can be given to get the best results and where to go, what to prepare for and such. I have 0 offensive skills to protect self, but do have a pre nerf probot with 3200 ham bars, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.

So I do appriciate any advice on how to sample, where to sample, what gives best results, and maybe a little overview on how diff samples make diff creatures...i am really excited about the crafting aspect and interjecting that into my alts chef skills. I tried sampling corellian butterflies and they didn't like that very much.

Should i mask scent too? Really any advice on how to get through this line and what cool things i get along the way when the skill increases...wow i sound like a kid on christmas with a new toy.

OK if you have no offensive skills then you want to sample things that do not deathblow. If your not sure and don't have the skills to check you can look a given animal up in www.swgcreatures.com. If you have no mask scent you want to sample things that are non-aggressive. If you have it I'd suggest being scent masked whether the donor is aggro or not.

I would keep you bot put away.Winning a fightwill cost you more time than the incappenalty. It is however worth it to run to lose the aggro but if you fail just take the incap. Remember you don't want to get incapped 3 times in any 10 minute period.

As a chef make yourself some brandy and use that to buff your mind stats before sampling. This will let you buff longer and better. You should also shift your focusover to the mental stats.

In order to be sucessful during your journey up the DNA sampling tree, it is best to have MaskScent. It is not necessary if you are sampling none-agro critters, but for the better DNA (and more xp) you need to sample agro critters.

At Novice BE you can sucessfully sample up to CL20 creatures. I would suggest starting off on Corellia, Tatooine, or Naboo.

At DNA1 you can successfully sample up to CL30 creatures. - Please note, it is theoretically possible (so I'm told) for ANY level to sample ANY creature up to CL75 (sampling cap). The CL levels I'm stating here are your best chances to get DNA and xp.

As for what planets, I'd suggest staying on the newbie planets until you attain DNA 2.

At DNA2 you can sample up to CL40 creatures. Head to Dantooine, maskscent, and use a macro to sample DNA from agro creatures. If you get attacked, just fly off.

**Macro**

/dismount speederbike; (substitute x34 if necessary)
/pause 1;
/sample;
/pause 1;
/mount speederbike; (again, substitue x34 if necessary)

**End Macro**

At DNA3 you can sample up to CL50 creatures. I would again suggest staying on Dantooine, as you'll find the majority of creatures can be sampled at this level.

At DNA4 you can successfully sample up to CL65. At this point you no longer need DNA and can successfully sample all but the highest of creatures (CL70-75) i.e. Ancient Bull Rancors, Bull Rancors, Mutant Rancors etc. You need Master BE to successfully sample these creatures.

Good luck on your venture up the DNA tree. If you do it like this, it shouldn't take you more than 1-3 days of solid sampling to climb the tree.

Last bit of information - watch your DNA samples in your inventory. If you fill up you can still sample, but you'll always fail because you have no more room in your inventory to store a sample.

Also, sampling is mind heavy. Take Muon Gold, get a dancer's mind buff, whatever it takes to keep your mind up.

yeah man, this is what i did.

1. Get some brandy or muon gold

2. Sample all the trash on the outskirts of town till Dna samp I

3. Go to dantooine, take missions for lesser bols. Its around 129xp, but you can sample them twice sometimes, and failure rates are low. So you can pull 2-3k xp a mission.

4. once you have dna samp II, sample pikets and do this till dna sampling IV

I also got some BE clothing that gave some bonuses for maskscent.
