Thread: Whats with the nerf bat being swung at BE's?
BE is one of the few wide open crafting classes in the game where almost anything is possible.
A gunsmith, for example, makes the same gun day in and day out, there isn't much he/she can do to change the very nature of a particular gun they produce.
BE's are very open ended and are free to experiment, mix, match and create. Its really quite a unique class in MMOs in the way that its implemented.

Exactly why i'm choosing it to be my crafting profession. I have three other characters. My fighter, My Buff bot (i could make this my crafter but i dont feel like getting into med crafting as a profession) and my Jedi.
BE, i think will be alot of fun.
BE is very open-ended, and we have a lot of creative/persistent folks in this profession... you have to be to stick with it.
My point is, creative/persistent/intelligent folks capable of virtually anything within their profession -will- test their limits and find new, powerful things. That being said... this is how a profession and a virtual world grows. I'm not too keen on it being stifled as much as it is, but there are worse fates.
Oh, and don't look for BE trainers in player cities... the option is not available! Found that out the hard way yesterday.
However any other CL10 or even a CL15 mob in the game cannot, thats the point here. They aren't supposed to be any use in PvP or PvE unless you're hunting lower end content. But you don't have to take my word for it, look at how they tried to prevent these from working already with the last patch. However the CL rating system is riddled with loopholes.
Someone please tell me how this gives anyone an unfair advantage?
Because now it means that a novice CH or a CH with 1/1/1/1 has utterly no advantage over a non-ch apart from being able to train and tame their own animals. Well done, you just killed the point of taking a new profession. People now thing, why should I bother grinding my way up the CH tree so I can start getting CL20 pets when I can have something with the same tanking potential as a non-ch.
So that Marksman..rifleman to be can essentially tank correlian butterflies while shooting them with his laser rifle...so what!
A pet with 3000/2000/1000 can tank things that low, however what you're talking about with a 6000 health pet means it can be sent in against aDune Banthaand live through it while a newbie blasts away with a CDEF rifle. I had a pet which was alot like the one you're discribing, as a 0/2/0/1 rifleman being my only offensive skills I was able to solo the Narglatch cave with it. That pet when it became invalid didn't allow me to scale it down however it did allow me to scale it up and it turned out to be CL27!
Haveing a toon that is a MCH I can feel for ya and I definatly dont want that nerf bat swong at anybody ever agian (except whiners give em hell devs) BE is an exelent prof, part of the reason I kept it on my alt after I got tired of the holo grind. Now I admit the 10k+ 60%kenetic/energy light armor pets we saw right after the revamp had to go. that was a horific slap in the face to CH's sence they just got nerfed over pets of that power. Most of the curent crop of pets are quite reasonalbe though. ya they may be a bit overboard in some areas but they give it up in others. At most a slight tweek of the CL algorithm on the non CH petswould be plenty (followed by an explination of how the heck it works). the biger pets are perfict the way they are as far as power/CL goes.
I and most of the rational CH's are with you here. at this point a nerf to BE would hit the CH as well sence wild pets that are worth anything are few, far between, and highly highly situational.
Actually i'm sorry to be so blunt but...so what! A ranger 1/1/1/1 really isn't all that much better than a novice ranger, a medic 1/1/1/1 cant really do much more thana novice ranger. There is a reason to grind all of CH to be a master. Being able to make a low level CL pet with 6k still doesn't change anything.

I've been trying to think of a good way to calculate creature level, best I can come up with is something like HAM/1000 + meandmg/100 + 1 for each special (probably needs some weighting) + sum of resists/10 ish, but I'm not sure how well that scales at higher levels (1 for each special would be the same at CL 70 as CL 10, which may or may not be appropriate, but I suppose dizzy is dizzy, whether its by a CL 70 or CL 10), also have to see the combat rebalance goes and the droid rebalance goes. If everyone is able to get a 5KHAM pet with some armour and resists about 100 dmg or so, then the game can be balanced around that.
