I have done many searches on these forums, and all the pages i have sifted through go the same way.

Original Poster: What is secret research data?

10-20 responces: Why dont you use the search page to find the info you seak.

1 response: Secret research data has not yet been discovered many people believe it is not yet in game.

Is it possible that the Dev's created something and forgot to put it in the game on release day. Or is it more likely that somehow we have missed 1 small peace of content. I dont really seeing the later as a possiblity as there is not much content to look through to find this secret data. Just wondering what peoples oppions were on this matter.

I read a post where a dev said it was an option coded but not implemented. We were all hoping it would be a drop in the geno cave but that wasn't the situation.

Dev posts are typically one liners (unless you're in the jedi forum because that's their baby). It's left up to us to fill in those huge gaps with thoughts of our own.

Short answer, don't worry about secret research data.

As it says in the FAQ and FAFAQ, secret research data isnt in the game yet. The optional slot was added at the time of the chef revamp (where we got the new tissues) but was meant for development at a later date when more data was available about the effect of BE components on chef foods.

it is not in the game, and all those posts you saw were people wondering the same thing... and there is no such thing.

I moved to Corellia I have no vendor and I don't know the coords to my house, but it doesn't really matter cause all my pets are in the tool box, I may have some in space, but that doesn't really concern you either.

Just FYI (and maybe this can be added to the FAQ), I pinned down GreenMarine at Fan Fest (he was the dev in charge of the chef revamp) and asked him about the research data. This was just chatting in the hallway, so I don't think that there's any "privileged info" problem with this. Here's what I got from him:

  • The research data development is effectively done, it sounded like it was justa matter of adding it as drops and/or quest rewards.

  • The data will probably effect the tissue in the same way that tissues effect food: it acts as a boost to the final effectiveness when included, probably as a percentage increase. GM mentioned that food enhanced with a tissue enhanced by research data would be in the range ofthree times as powerful as a completely un-enhanced food, so the data would probably give a 100-150% increase to the tissue.

  • Research data will be limited use (most likely single-use). Given the consumable nature of food, this might be too much of a damper on the usability of the data.

  • Hooks are included in the code to allow research data to be factional. So a Rebel/Imp player may be able to purchase data from a recruiter, give it to a Rebel/Imp BE to makethe tissue, give those to a Rebel/Imp chef to make the food, and then it can only be used while overt.

    • Ok, the realism factor drops a bit with this (a covert rebel can't eat a hamburger bought from an Imperial store?), but it does give crafters the ability to participate more in the GCW. I wouldn't expect to see this for quite some time, even after non-factional data becomes available.

Obligatory disclaimers: this info is almost four months old, things may have changed, I may have misunderstood GM's comments, or I might have misremembered (although the info above is mostly from a post I made shortly after Fan Fest). Nothing should be taken as a given until this actually shows up in-game.

wow sci guy great info from you. I hope they do something with it. It seems like a waste now. Besides it would give me something to do besides craft all day. However I dont understand that if it was basically completed 4 months ago why havent we seen it yet. Well i guess JTL did slow down development, (although they sowre it wouldnt,) or maybe its secret research done in space, (not likely) well anyway lets push to get this stuff out sounds like it could be fun. and very very profitable.
