Thread: Fellow BE's
lets see almost none of the tissues work. They have been fixed so that they no longer hurt people mroe than help, but looking at number of tests that have been done the tissues seem to do pretty much nothing.
Food additives are weak and use a lot of dificult if not impossible to find reasources.
Experimentation is broken. I have 2 bars and get improved stats about 1 time in 3 and the improvement is usually +1 or 2 percent. Also often when it says you have had a sucess or any variation on that it actually mena syou have had a failure.
DNA sampling comes and goes, some days it works some days it dosen't.
XP is hard to come by.
Get a little further into it. I, too, was moderately happy until I mastered Tissue Engineering, and after that, the Bio-Engineering path.
The largest portion of the bitterness comes, I think, from watching new content be added in the form of the Politician profession, player cities & mounts, and being left completely out in the cold. Where a Master Dancer/Musician is necessary for Cantinas/Theatres, and a Master Doctor/Combat Medic is needed for a Med Center...a Master Bio-Engineer, who devotes half their profession to Cloning and DNA, is most emphatically not needed to place a Cloning center in a player city.
There are wild, tameable non-Handler versions of all the mountable types of creatures. All it takes for a Creature Handler to get several is a little diligence, a few minutes of time to tame it, then passively growing them in their copious datapad storage space. For a Master Bio-Engineer...we can make, as has been said previously, ducks and vultures. The potential of makingsaid bird-brainsbetter than what is tamable in the wild requires a very heavy investment of time, moderate investment of resources, and reliance on Muon Gold spice (which is only a way to diminish the time investment by a fraction). We can't even grow these creations of ours in our datapads unless we're willing to become Creature Handlers ourselves, or not have any personal pets. I personally became a Creature Handler to be able to tame and train my creations...and the lack of viability of cloning in general caused my interest in that to wane to the point where I've given up all CH skills in favor of something I find more interesting.
That brings us to the other highest contributor in the bitterness of non-Holodice Bio-Engineers; that half of our profession devoted to Cloning is a joke. For the introduction of mounts, one of the seven broken, untameable clones we can make was fixed. It shows us how important fixing our proffession's broken aspects are -- only when it affects Creature Handlers. Only Creature Handlers can use the Bol as a mount. Broken clonesconstitute one fifth of our clonable creatures. To fix just one of them was a slap in the face. Of the four-fifths that can be tamed, the only combat clones in demand are the Gurrek and Rancor, both of which require a Master Creature Handler to manage -- limited market there. So that leaves a total of four clones that anyone actually wants: Kaadu, Carrion Spats, Gurreks and Rancors. The rest are either furniture, or being used by people with very non-standard play styles.
So, what can we, the crafter's crafter, craft? Tissues. Pet meds. Most of us didn't sign up for this to be vets. Especially when we're not necessary to apply the meds, just to make them. So we're not even vets, we're the vets' pharmacists. Clothing enhancements? Very questionable as to whether or not they actually work. I know I have my doubts, and I wear quite a few. Again, what we can make there is very limited in its marketablity, and excruciatingly difficult toget resources for.
Food supplements are only worth mentioning as an irritant. They take more to make than the food they're supposed to supplement, and the Chef class is so hosed there are too few of Chefs to whom tomarket. And again, the resource requirements are simply ludicrous, both in terms of what they require, and the return on the amounts. This is coming from someone who dropped Chef to become a Bio-Engineer, in the hopes that I could make something that would be of use to others and in demand.
Did that cover it?
You get to make some very cool animals that can never be tamed. The kimo is completely worthless now since we can't even sample DNA from them. You get to make some odd ball critters that most people don't have the faintest idea what they are.
Tissues sell if you can find the resources to make them. Some people decide the amount of money they make for tissues isn't worth the effort. That's something personal you have to decide on your own.
Experimentation is horrible. Most of the time I don't experiment on my products for fear I'll get a success which makes the stats decrease.
I enjoy the profession in theory. It has the potential of being a very fun job. I just get tired of wishing the devs would see the potential and finally fix things. I hope they get off their collective butts before its too late.
