Thread: Feign Dead for Bio-Engineers?

I'm wondering if feign dead would bea worthwhile skill to go after as a BE? Does it work well as an "escape" when DNA sampling goes bad?

(I have a master BE on a 2nd account)

I end up killing every creature I sample. Half die by the needle. The other half I have to deal with. When you loose aggro, often when you go back they still remember you. Some have longer memories. Does FD erase the memory?

No, I've seen someone FD before and when he got up the same creature attacked him again (He had to FD 4 times to get away, lol). This was a couple months ago so I dont know if that has changed. It will save your life though, you just wont get to sample that creature because it will still attack you when you get into range again. As you said it remembers you tried to kill it.

If you fiegn near the lair then you'll probably still be attacked, if you are further from the lair they'll generally leave you alone. So it's handy in some situation but I'd still not part with my adhesive mesh to stop them in their tracks reguardless of where I am.

I am finding that just running away is a good tactic. Remember to keep your mask scent up and running.

Also, if you have it, warning shot works great

And most times they will not still aggro me. Of course, I'm using Pickets on Dant for this, but I would suspect that any non-aggressive type of creature would react similar.

As to FD? I've watched my smuggle buddies use that to great effect, so if you are wanting smuggler anyway, I think it definately couldn't hurt.

Hmm.. I guess I was thinking it might come in handy with the new system forcing us to sample big baddies. I started my BE a couple of months ago but just made master the other week. I haven't tried to make creatures yet (exceptfor some decent mounts)because I knew the whole system was changing drastically.

Do you think ranger skills are a better investment? Originally I had planned on master ranger/master BE, but then I took a liking to being a medic so put ranger on the back burner.

Thanks..

Don't bother mastering Ranger, just take 4/0/4/0 at the very most.

As a 0/4/3/4 Smuggler and brand new Master Bio-Engineer I can't tell you how glad I was to have Smuggler skills when DNA sampling. Being able to make my own Muon Gold to having Feign death as my get out of jail free card I did smapling I through IV all on Dantoonie where my city is located. For I & II I took Lesser Plains Bols missions and once I hit III & IV I did Piket Plains Walker missions. When I would get aggro I'd feign death and get hit once and go down. Usually the creature will stop fighting, but you will still have the red X of combat on you. To avoid getting up and shooting just hit stand macro and peace directly afterwards. No aggro and as soon as you are upright you can go back to sampling. For some of the bigger creatures you might want to be buffed to avoid one hit deaths, but feign death keep me from the clone center all through-out my sampling grind.

Good luck.

Actually im with skep on this one, i have two characters: A MCH nearmaster-Smuggler, and a dabbler-doc/ Master Bio Engineer. If your already going to go toward Smuggler then its a must have ability and will help you somewhat with your BE duties, but if you had other plans for your toon i wouldnt go out of my way for it. Even when sampling the most hardcore critters on Dath or Endor ive rarely run into a situation that was just as well handled without FD as with, smart sneaking and running is far more usefull for getting out of jams than the old "hit and pray".

FD is especially useful for me since I do not have mask scent. I can generally crawl up to creature, sample it and if it aggros just hit FD. It is a good idea to not have any weapons equipped when you do this and they generally lose interest in you when you pop back up and resample/FD again.
