Thread: Looking for a pricing formula...
There was a post that i can't find anylonger that had a title that went something like this....do be's make anymoney at all.....
It had a pricing formula that i liked and i would like to see if anyone has that link because i have yet to find it again...
also, if someone has a formula that they like and consider it fair pricing, i would like to see it
i am talking of pricing for tissues, stims, and vit packs
thanks,
Lokiie
I want to caution you. What you paid for your present resources is somewhat irrelevent. Price stuff based on what it costs to replace them.
Pet Stims... charges x power x .1 = price... 30 charges, 1k power, = 3k credits
Tissues.. 200 per lower point.. 14-16 active bio.. 2800 .... 4-17 tensile 3400
Pets if made very well will go for 1k credits per CL
See what similar quality items go for on your server. I've seen a server where stims better than mine go for half what they go for on my server.
If you make good stims always put the heal power number next to them. If other BE's are making stims much better than yours you might be better off not putting this number in.
Adjust your prices if they sell too slow or too fast. On the weekend I tend to bump my price up a bit, this doesn't effect how fast they sell too much. On the weekdays Ilower the price down a few hundred. Why not, Gas stations have been doing this for years?
If your items are on a bazaar that has a lot of other pharmecuticals sometimes withdrawing, retrieving and putting them back up for sale will bump you back to the front page of that category. I don't know if some people don't know about the "next items" button or just don't bother. There have been times where I don't get a sale for hours and I do this and they sell out before I get back on the shuttle.
I developed a formula that depends on:
- Complexity rating of the item being produced
- Amount, type, and specificity of resources involved. I price resources based on the resource "tree" and use a modifier if a specific planet's resources (i.e., "Talusian vegetable fungus") is required, depending on the risk and cost involved in obtaining those resources.
- The skill level required in order to produce the item (I use a rating from 0.5 for Novice Artisan to 2.0 for Master BE, with graduations in between)
Basic formula is:
- My "at cost" price:
(Resource Cost) * (1 + (If Complexity < 10 then 0 else (Complexity - 10) / 15)) - My "guild" price:
((At Cost price) * 1.5) * (Skill Level) - My "retail" price:
- ((At Cost price) * 2.5) * (Skill Level)
Results are that cheap items are really cheap, while more expensive items are reasonably priced while maintaining a good profit margin. I use the same pricing structure for my tailor items, and simply add prices together when I create bioengineered clothing.
My resulting prices are posted at http://home.comcast.net/~averyfarman/FiletBioEngineerFAQ.htm. Feel free to use.
You can't get anymore fair than having a price which allows you to make another one of those two of the items. Basically if you work out how much you spend on resources and then multiply it by two then you'll find things work out fairly well.
My prices are flat rates based on what is convenient to sell on the bazaar:
"Foyle Budget Brand" items gofor 500 cr. each, regardless of quality (quality actually doesn't vary very much except upwards, pet stim-b's tend to start at 700+/20+ - but I haven't got master BE yet)
"Foyle Premium" items go for 3000 cr. each, again, regardless of quality (vitality packs are typical in this category).
I'm seriously thinking of adding a "Foyle Basic Budget Brand" at 200 cr. per item - but ATM can't keep up with demand for the existsing lines!
This is about half or a third of the prices from the formulas above. And before you ask, I do make money (quite a lot of money actually). I'll not go into the precise details of how I manage to do that, suffice to say there are 2 ways a business can increase it's profits, and I'm not using the method everyone else seems to be using!
Think of a number, double it, add 300 and then divide by the square root of the number you first thought of.
Then /shout anyone want to buy an XXXXXXXX for YYYYYY credits.
If you get innundated with replies then you know it was too cheep and you should think of a bigger number next time ![]()
I'm not making any C's or D's right now for that reason . . . and I'm noticing that the charges and heals i'm seeing from other vendors on my server are not much better than my B's (32/860 - 899). Unless I get a special order and have the resources, I'll probably never actively stock anything other than B's.
I sell out of Pet Stims faster than I can make them, and I know I'm charging mid - high for mine - charge x heal / 7 x number in the crate. I give a 30% off to my guildmates, and have thrown in "extras" to regular customers if I'm in my shop when they purchase.
I've received a couple large orders for decoration pets, and I price those according to what kind of quality they want. If it's for decoration only, I can use low quality dna (yard trash) and my worst resources, and I price accordingly (usually around 50% of a combat quality pet).
Tissues vary in price depending on how the resource market / availability is going.
I know you were probably looking for the ultimate price guide, but really there can't be one. Prices vary from server to server, and planet to planet. What I have started doing is writing down all my prices, and then when I happen upon another Bio-Eng vendor, I compare my prices to theirs.
Something that has helped me in pricing things that I try to keep stocked and are not bio items (camps/pet food) is making a spread sheet and figuring out how much I can buy the resource, how much I sell it it for, and what profit I make at that cost. You could even throw in factory costs, harvester costs, power, etc.
I've sold batches of 650/17 PetStimC's for 3500-4500.
I am selling 22/754 PetStimBs for 1650, crates of 25 for 41500.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm having a hard time keeping my vendor stocked (and, I'm having a hard time getting Dath Insect Meat).
I've sold batches of 650/17 PetStimC's for 3500-4500.
I say raise the price, because getting Dath Insect meat is a huge leech of time and money.
I have been selling B's, 26/744 for 3100 each, -10% on any crate and -30% to guild members and -20% bi-weekly customers (3)in bulk (min of 10 crates at a time).
I have given weekly bulk customers the price I sell to the public for, and they use this same number, and are making creds like mad. I have 1 customer that sells out 10 cratesin5-6 days time.
