i could see that happening, make it harvestable just like meat and bone, cept give like half the normal harvest level. there would bee all the same designations, like herbivore blood and insect blood. Current schematics could accept it as an organic resource, though, I wouldn't give it a flavor attribute. That way, we wouldnt be the only ones who would have a use for it. We would need a blood/dna converter kinda like a repair device that takes a volume of blood and generates a dna sample. by my example, 1 for 1 would be too efficient.

Still boils down to the same issue of storage. I'd like to see blood samples as an additonal means of getting DNA but not replacing it entirely.

Insect blood, or herbivore blood will be too general for our uses. It has to be different for each species if we're going to get all of the needed stats out of it. So we would need to send a hunter out after a specific species, otherwise they will end up with a lot of mismatched resources that don't stack. I imagine that it would take a lot of coding to make blood for each species. Still, it would solve a few problems.

As I was rading throe Tal-N's reply to Talthazar's post "BE Issues - First run - Please read and provide feedback " an idea struck me. And as I did not wand to confuse the issue, I created a new one topic.
Why not remove our ability to sample DNA directly from live creatures and instead make all creatures drop "blood" samples as loot. The blood would be stackable, (all nightspider's would drop nightspider blood, all enraged rancor's would drop "enraged rancor" blood and so on) and thus it would be a resource viable for trade. Larger creatures would give more blood then small creatures, babies would always give only 1 blood unit.
Bio-Engineers could then extract DNA samples from the blood, destroying the blood in the process. (one unit of blood = chance at one sample)
While the DNA it self would not be a tradable resource the blood would, thus the BE would not be require to have the ability to gain it them self and could rely on combat classes to do the dirty work. BE's would not need mask sent, and the "combat classes" would get an extra income class.
More over we could store large amounts of blood in our houses, and then first extract the DNA when we needed to create clones.
This would solve several of our problems at once...

Grelgen, the point would be that blood would keep the information of the creatures CL armour special resistance and what ever else that would matter for clone creation under the new system. The way mead/hide/boned work does not do that, all insects on the same planet give the same meat no matter what their CL and special attacks are.
Making it an "organic resource" for crafting purposes, would be counter productive. It would require it to shift like other resources and would make it just as scarce.
The tool part could be interesting, If creatures dropped only 1 or 2 units of blood, and the normal conversion was the 1 unit of blood giving 1 chance at DNA, then perhaps using a more then one unit of blood would get DNA shambles closer to the best possible for that spices (and increasing the chance of a success)
Tal-N, storage would still be better then it is now. At the moment I can go out and sample 100 units night spider DNA and it would take up 100 storage spaces. If I could go out and kill 100 night spiders and get 100 units of night spider blood it would only take 1 storage unit. As blood would not shift over time someone hunting a planet would get only a set number of types based on the number of animals on that planet. Moreover, they could just destroy the blood of unwanted type (or just not loot it).
We would also be able to take hired guns with us out hunting. Currently it is not really fun for them to stand around looking at us taking samples. But if we have to kill the creature to get the blood, then they would actuarially be highly needed.
And finally the CL of creatures we can get DNA from could be opened up in the high end. All thoughts people hunting krayt dragons to get the tissues for armour and weapons could also be getting blood for us.
Such a system and this would be too much Database space for a partial system, hence why I wrote it as a total take over of the old system. However, our current ability to take DNA samples could be changed to taking blood samples from living creatures.
Yasho_Tarien, yes it would take a lot of coding, but I doubt it would take more coding then solving the same problems one at the time. I can imagine that a DNA storage device alone would be a coding and database nightmare.
And of cause we would have to send people out for specific blood types, but we will already have to go out and get specific DNA types already, but this way we can send others that are better soughed for combat.
Of cause, I already have a lot of mismatched resources that do not stack, it comes from the constant shift of resources. So in that department blood would be no different from all the resource, except that they would not shift, and blood gathered from creatures last weak would stack with the blood gathered this weak and next weak.
