Bio Engineer Archive

Ok, I now have DNA 1, I also have scout 3/1/4/0 and novice carbineer at the moment. Here is my problem. I can try to sample a level one creature four times in a row and still fail, higher levels are even worse, although sometimes I get a lower level creature on the first try - but it usually takes more. Are there any hints to get a more realiable sampling rate. What am I doing wrong? Does having a weapon equipped mess things up? Should I be wearing some type of clothing? Any hints on how to make this grind go faster or is it something I just have to live with?
