Thread: BSN Pricing (don't flame me)

I know there are probably 6 or 7 threads in the first 5 pages on this, at least, but I want to know what you guys see as a fair price.

I am running 80 crates right now of BSN's with a power of 82.

I am more concerned about your cost estimates really.

Now a full 1000 ina factory takes about 2 days, that maintanence power and time all in just production.

I use flora for 60 of the 80 resources per unit, and its good flora. I would say 6 cpu is a cheap price for the oats I have been using. And I use 20 meat a unit. I use sub par meat, but I charge 10 cpu for bulk meat, unless the quality is exceptional then I charge more. 10cpu may seem pricey, but I can gather a good 40k a hunt, and make good money selling my meat to grinders for that price.

So production I would say per crate costs are around maybe 200-300 a crate and materials is about 14k a crate.... so lets just say 14k a crate is my cost. Is it too much for me to charge chefs, which make well over 100k profit a crate of Brandy about 40k-50k a crate?

What are your estimated costs for your BSNs?

IMO, you should never go by cost per crate, go by cost per unit produced. You get more accurate that way.

If you go to www.swgcraft.com there is a nice utility, called factory calc, that allows you to put in the cost per resource (both power and ingredients) for the factory run, schematic difficulty, and how many units you are producing. It will then put out how much each individual unit is costing you, and how much the entire batch is costing you. I went ahead and ran the calculator and using a 20 difficulty schematic, with 1000 units, 80 resources used per unit, an avg cost of 7 credit per resource ((60*6)+(20*10)/80), and power at 2 credits per power resource (can buy for 1.5, or even harvest at .2 cpu), and it says that it will cost you 568 (round up) per unit to produce. It will take about 44.4 Hours to complete the run which will cost you 4445 Power and 2667 Maintainence (if I remember the info correctly). So your total cost for all 1000 will be about 56.8k.

From there, you can decide what to charge.

I know that calculator is on that site, but I also thought most people use their own system. Just curious what all your costs were on average

I base everything on the Neutrient Value

At BSN 82 my crates would be

25*82*18 = 36900 per crate (my base price is 18 credits per neutrient.

Thus my BSN at 86 are 38700 per crate.

you may raise the question of Micro and about losing money, well i find it balances out when i sell INT w/ neutrient bonus of 116 or higher (52200 a crate)

I base my prices on the cost of the resources to me and the bonus.

All my bonuses have a base cost associated with them. I then add the cost of my resources to that. It generally comes out at a fair amount. I have over 5 chefs that I service and none of them have ever complained about my prices.

I created my own spreadsheet and calculated my cost based on harvester gathered or hand gathered resources. The numbers I used intially were 5 cpu for the former and 15 cpu for the later. That price, plus a charge for the factory costs, put me about 2/3rds of what I saw others selling them for during the chef rush.

I auctioned off a couple of particularily good runs and made contacts with a few chefs who kept me busy for the next few weeks at prices which were about 25% above my spreadsheet. Things have slowed down considerably now and I haven't made a run of BSN for about a week and a half if not two.

Allieria's formula looks surprisingly close to what I sold them for once I hit the stable price (auctions aside), 40k a crate for mid 80s (82-85). Auction prices went as high as 75k a crate for a full run of 85s.

And while it's attractive to consider even 75k a crate good on brandy which costs 250+k a crate you have to remember there are a *lot* more steps for them to run through to make that. Factory run of trim for the casks, factory run on the casks themselves, factory run on your tissue to get it an additive, factory run on the brandy itself (goes off to find the schematic to see what else) ...

Alcohol. Factory run on the alcohol. That's five factory runs for the one of ours.

I've often considered (since I have an alt whose got MA) making my lights into additives and marketing them that way. Price shouldn't rise too much since it would only be any water plus factory costs. Maybe I should get novice chef with him to make medium additives too!

My lights are 25k a crate

My Mediums are 50k a crate

My Heavies are 65k a crate

My lights come out 54-56 power

My Mediums come out 84-86 power

My Heavies come out 114-116 power

What I do when I figure out my cost is:

First: Market Value of my resources

This is the most basic part. Using med additivesas an example I need 500 meat and 1500 flora PER crate of 25

Now, as you might have taken note by the power of my additives I use high quality meat/flora. High quality meat on Bria goes for 20cpu to 50cpu on average. High Quality Flora goes for 5cpu to 10cpu.

I take the lower value on the meat and higher value on the flora and come up with 25k per crate of the mediums.

Second: I factor in my time

This includes EVERYTHING involved with making goods in SWG. From spending my time surveying, running a fleet of harvestors/fusions gens, hunting (including cost of BE food, armor, and weapon decay), etc etc etc.

I add 10k per crate for this.

Third: I factor in the economy **or** VALUE

Obviously I'm not in the business of making others rich at my expense. If the average BE supplement double to tripples the value of a chef product I'm going to insist on a share of that. I add 15k as my cut of the chef profit.

The latter I **can** and ***do*** ajust depending on my Clients. If I verify low prices I slash my med and heavies by 10k. This means instead of taking a 15k share of profit I take a 5k share.

Well I just threw my first batch, I run 2 factories at a a time, of 80 crates of +82 up on my vendor for 40k a crate. Its been about 3 hours since I tossed it on the forums and already I am getting great response. But I am also offeringa bulk deal to people, 10+ crates at a time get em for 30k (which is cheap I know). We will see how it turns out. I am guessing I will sell out before I even get home, LOL.

My second run is already cooking and they are 84, will honestly probably charge 40k a crate for them and only cut deals on 20 crates or more.

I think once I get clientel I will be a very busy man. I really like some of these pricing schemes, so far been the best post on any pricing I have seen on these forums.

I have a 1000 unit run of 84 power goin' right now. I was plannin' on selling them for 40-50k depending on the buyer. All you need is a couple good chefs and you'll be set....

There is no problem using Brandy as a comparison, but you need to realize that a majority of chefs sales is not in Brandy anymore unless that is all they sell. Many foods it becomes useless to use a tissue in them because the added 50k a crate just to the regular price is more than people will pay. Drinks have the bonus of being able to be casks. Foods don't have that.

I'm not saying your price is too high. I know many people sell for that, and can't keep up. Realize though that if someone is paying 50k for a crate to put them in foods they are probably not making the profit you stated per crate. I would be getting about 5k profit per crate over a regular crate and it takes twice as long for me to make. Sell for what you want though, it was more the issue of no BE was willing to supply the amounts I needed instead of the price that made me become a BE.
