Thread: Clone Tree suggestion

It's probably just me, but did anyone else think it was weird that you can make creatures without having any of the target creature's DNA? When I started BE, I had never even seen a Bearded Jax, yet it said I could make it. I figured I had to add Rori to my list of regularly-visited planets. Turns out that I just needed 5 bits of gnort DNA; 1 Jax, coming up.

With that little tidbit out of the way, I thought of a way to deal with this strange fact, and accommodate the "huge" increase in the number of templates and creatures that we're supposedly going to have in the future. It's a cross between the old CH system and ours, and requires a new product, the DNA Template Library.

What if, instead of getting new templates and creatures at each step in the Clone Engineering tree, we got creature level abilities for DNA template storage/replication? I would see it working this way: at novice BE, we would be able to store in our BE "library" DNA templates for creatures CL 10 and under. The CL level would increase by 15 for each step up the BE ladder, so:

Novice BE: CL10
Clone Eng 1: CL25
Clone Eng 2: CL40
Clone Eng 3: CL55
Clone Eng 4: CL70
Master BE: CL85+

The trick is, however, that in order to get the template in the first place, you need to use a bit of that creature's DNA. Instead of starting out Novice BE with a creature to make, you start out with the ability to craft a DNA library/replicator, but can't make more than 1 or 2 creatures. As you sample DNA in the wild, you gain the ability via the radial menu to add this DNA to your library, assuming it's within your CL limit. Once the DNA is stored in your library, you can make that pet from any DNA samples. It's as if you're using the structure of the stored template and adding other DNA to it. Your Library would act as a replicator for the templates and allow you to make as many creatures as you wish from that template.

As to the benefits, I think there might be many:

Promote a DNA market: Under this plan, a BE might think that he has the skills BE-wise to make a Toxic Merek Avenger (assuming we ever get to make these), but certainly doesn't want to go stand next to one to stick a needle in its butt. But a Ranger/BE might be able to do it, and could then sell the DNA to other BEs to be stored in their libraries.

Clean up crafting tools/process: Instead of having huge lists of creatures to make, the list would only contain what's in your library, i.e., what you want to make.

Ties the trees together: In this plan, the DNA sampling tree would work much more closely with the clone line, since your increased ability to sample high-level DNA would help you add the good, high-level creatures to your library.

Might help crafters: Maybe the DNA Template Library could store a max of 25 templates, but that can be experimented higher by crafters. Then you could have a lot of templates without having multiple libraries taking space in your inventory.

Make more sense: It just seems odd that you can make Rancors without ever having seen one. Now you either need to see one or buy its DNA from an MBE.

First of all this is far too complex a system to understand what with all of the replicating and specific dna. Storage is already an issue and given how you'd end up with a huge strain on the database from all those unique items you're really asking for things to be made too hard to grasp for novices and newbies. Also I dunno why the hell your talking about CL60+ clones but you should realise that CHs only have the ability to tame up to CL60.

I thought it was changed to CL75 or more; that can certainly be adjusted to fit the taming tree.

Also, there would be no specific templates per se. The only point would be that you couldn't have access to creature templates unless you have a bit of their DNA stored with you. Why shouldn't we have to wait to make rancors until we've sampled their DNA?
