This is how I work it, and it works.
I generally use the 2 specials I want in slot 5 on one DNA template and fill in the other 4 slots with lower quality DNA samples.
So...
Slot 1 Hardiness Fortitude=Health bar…500>=light armor
Slot 2 Dexterity/Endurance=Action Bar
Slot 3 Intellegence/Cleverness=Mind bar=to hit
Slot 4 Dependability/Courage=Prowess=attack speed
Slot 5 Fierceness/Power=Damage
Slot 1=Special attack 1
Slot 3= Range attack
Slot 5=Special 2
As a general rule anyway, will always work if Sa1 in slot 1 is invalid.
Use of low quality in slot 1 and matching HQ or above in 3 and 5 will give range and BOTH specials in slot 5
To repeat, HQ matching or above in 3 and 5 and a lower quality sample in slot 1 and 4 will give range and both specials in slot 5
Be sure to use a lower quality in slot 4 than what is in 3 and 5 also. Sooo.

In most cases you will get both specials from slot 5 and range from 3 like this
Use crap meat and flora to make the pet, makes NO difference

If you want both specials from a certain sample, really, truly, you just use a VHQ sample of that in aggression, end of story. No worrying about the other 4 samples, and no "do-overs" because the special you thought would carry through from prowess, or mind, or whereverdidn't come through for some reason.
So when I collect samples for the purpose of being "specials donors" I throw out everything that's not a VHQ sample. It can be painful, and frustrating when sampling, but in the long run it's less work and you get better, more consistent results. There's nothing more useless than a AA quality merek death's head sample imho.

Say I want to make sure my pet has strong disease/strong poison, so i get get the DNA from the merek I need, etc.
But I also want to stick in Mutant Rancor for a resist buff and HAM buff.
How would I arrange the Data to make sure I get what I want, Is there a partiuclar slot(s) that says ok, Use this special, or is a # ammount, ok, 3 slots with disease/poison, 1 with dizzy, 1 knockdown, and 1 stun, ok 3 vs 1, 3 vs 1, 3 vs 2, 3 vs 1, yup poison/disease wins...

Agression is special 1, and psychology is special 2 usually.
All this information is in the FAQ.

I almost started destroying AA DNA, then I decided to just use my droid out in the field, if I am almost Full, and craft using just the AA DNA, and I have made some of my best Creatures with this stuff, and I say best, because it seems I can to a lot of experimenting, but the CL seems to stay pretty low.
I have made some crazzzy stuff with this, also you can use it in the agression slot, if you want the agression but not the specials, and then put VHQ in Mind and Phsyc. to get desired specials at least that's what I do with my AA MR DNA.

well if you want to use MR to up the HAM then sticking a VHQ MDH in slot 5 is going to impact your health and resists. Try using VHQMR VHQMR VHQMDH VHDMDH AAMR as your recipe - the two MDH will likely override the MR's specials, and you wont be sacrificing as much health and resists since you have MR in slot 5.
