Thread: Changing Posture While Sampling... good idea?

In the critical moments when you are sampling a highly aggressive creature, it helps to stay as concealed as possible.
I usually crawl the last 50 m or so when approaching one of these creatures, kneel, and sample while kneeling (following the suggestion I read on this forum).
A few days ago i came up with the idea of beginning a sample either while standing or kneeling, and then going prone while I wait for the sample to be taken.
It seemed like a great idea on paper, and I've only done it a few times, but I've noticed that I seem to be getting aggroed the majority of the times I do this.
I'm planning on retiring this tactic, but wanted to ask anyone else's opinion... have you tried this? has it worked for you? Is sampling while kneeling the most accepted method?

My tactic:
-Begin DNA Sampling process
-Mount speeder
-If creature aggros then get the hell out of dodge.
-If not then dismount, rinse, repeat.

The lower your posture the less chance you have of being detected.

lower posture = lower chance of escape, lower chance of being detected
So far my experiencehas been such that I value my ability to escape once detecterdmore than my
ability to remain undetected.

Me too. If the creature is < CL 50 or so, I just mask and land right next to it on the speeder and do what Stag says. For higher level stuff (like burrower queens or mutant rancors) I park the bike, walk in slowly, from "behind" whenever possible, and if I get aggrod I burst run and hit "peace", that generally keeps the critter from db'ing. Then time to try it again.

Personally I wear enough clothing to give me +25 to mask scent, and for the really high CL's I eat those snaks that give you +'s to mask scent. This seems to make me near on invisible, still get the occasional spot, but never while sampling.
I normally have a low level pet out to use as food so if I get agro I ran towards the nearest yellow dots while sending snack into attack 
. Also pumping peace as fast as I can, this normally saves my bacon, sowhile snack gets munched up I get away

Snack is normally a 14-17 level pet with 6Kish Ham some kin resis and big damage, no specials and definitly no range. Yup I'm a BE/CH combo.

will the extra maskscent from the food make any difference or is 125 the max you can get ?

You can go over +125% with the food. the max of 125% is for master scout (+100) with the max bonus clothes allow (+25)

well my macro for dna sampling is (unless im sampling mutant rancs):
/follow;
/sampleDNA
so for me to change position would just be silly because as soon as it moved i would have to stand up :/

I'm having a hell of a time sampling mutant rancors, tried roughly 40 times last night, everytime soon as I got within ~80M, it detected me and aggro'd (from 80M?!?!)
I'm 4/0/4/0 Scout, Should I go master?

Do you have your +25 mask scent clothes and drinking jawa beer? I don't have mster scout but I do use clothes and beer and I can sample them. Its just hard to get close enough to do it.

Do yo uhave your +25 mask scent cloths and drinking jawa beer? I don't have mster scout but I do use cloths and beer and I can sample them. Its just hard to get close enough to do it.Message Edited by Kevm on 07-23-2004 10:09 AM
