Thread: hiya, i'm new to BE

i made an alt toon to try some new things out... i've never done a crafting prof before, always thought they were boring... but i was bored and thought i'd try one out on TC2 one day, just a quick messong around type thing... the DNA sampleing was fun, takes me back to the old days of being MCH (pre Dec nerf), tryin to steal a baby mauler from its parents... and since i do love me pets, BE is probably the only crafting prof i'd actully enjoy...


but i have a couple of questions that i didn't see in the FAQ's...


1. how much merchant do you really need??? cause i'm making my template around TK/MBE (i really hate getting dead)... if i can get by reasonably well with just the one vendor and item cap from the artisan tree that would be a plus...


2. how much in scout exploration line do most of you have???


heres the template i'm looking at right now TKM/MBE/ scout 3,0,4,0/ medic 1,1,0,4/ artisan 0,0,3,0... i know that i can get by with TK 4,0,4,0 and free up4 SP in medic if i need more merchant or scout...


any inputs would be greatly appreciated

merchant as business 3 is the big bulky vendor not a NPC one u need novice merchant for them


depending on what pets you want to make if you want to go sample the big bad boys scout 4 x 4 x and mask scent clothes maxed out to +25 is a very big help but is possible with 3 x 4 x just prepare to be frustrated

My template is MBE / TKM

I really enjoy it. theres little point (in my opinion) in taking a ranged skill with BE, as when you aggro a creature on a sample, it is always at close range anyway..and TKM allows you to be fairly self -sufficient. I like this, as playing BE with a group is not always a fun experience (no please dont go near that..no dont aggro it..Ill be done sampling in a bit)

I think 1 vendor is fine..just go for quality rather than quantity

I have 4/0/0/4 scout . I know some BEs dont have any of the exploration line, but I don't think I could do without it. Its a must if you plan to sample the big stuff (or how about smuggler DF1..run up..feign death, cease aggro, get up and smaple?) lol

I would definately get 4/0/0/4 scout.

Hi Wabit,

About 2 weeks or so ago I made a post similar to yours asking the same general questions. I followed the advice I was offered and today I am a MBE.. My current template is:

Master Bio-Engineer
Artisan 0041 (like I was told you will need at least survey 1 to get resources to make tissues)
Scout 4040 (I bought 2 +15 Maskscent clothing articles)

The rest of my template really dosen't apply directly to BE but I am working on merchant 3001 to at least get onto the map with my vendor

In my experience if you want to collect DNA from high level creatures you will need scout 4x4x...
Even then it's hard but SUCH A BLAST...to me WAY more fun than any combat...

...nothing like running around on dath with no armor and no combat skills standing 14m to a rancor...
unreal....

The rest of my template if you care is focused on merchant and artisan, i would like to reach master artisan and merchant 3014 but i am not planning any combat..keeps the BE profession real interesting...

...more to your questions, I have a hard time at scout 4040 getting DNA from high level creatures so if that is what you want to sample I reccomend scout 4040 and the maskscent clothing combo...

Your merchant question is entirely up to you i would think you could make it simply by selling on the bazzar if you wanted too.... You would need to explore what planets and what bizarrs sell the best but IMO you could probally make it without any merchant.. If you do want a vendor artisan 0030 is minimum and if you want that vendor to show on the planatary map merchant 3000 is min..

I'm Master BE, Master Scout, Ranger 4,0,0,0, CH 0110, and got business 3 for my vendor. I'll end up droppin CH and Business 3 cause I want master ranger. Only things that constantly break my maskscent is purbles! I have a 2nd toon that's gonna be a Master Rifleman/Master CH and will make him my vendor hoe.

thanks for the inputs


i really don't plan on selling alot of things... and i already have deals worked out for someone to survey for me (friends are nice to have)... i'm doing BE more for the pet side of the profession... food and clothing enhancements really don't interest me right now (maybe in the future they will)...


anither thing that drew me to BE is its more of a level playing feild, no 12 point this or that around... the only thing where the older BEs have a big advantage is in their experiance and the resources...


another thought i had was maybe make a deal with a merchant and let them be my broker, but i'm not really sure how that works... or just keep doing/droping businees 3 (don't know if thats allowable anymore though) and get the whole scout exploration tree...

I would think that the merchant part of your template would depend on how much tissue work you want to do. Selling tissue can eat up 100 item slots on a vendor in half a moment.

I'll echo what was said about scout 4040. 3040 is ok, but the big bugs will tend to give you problems. Sneaking up on 5-6 mutant rancors with scout 3040 could be very frustrating.
