Thread: This ever happen to anyone else? 'Cause it freaks me out.
This has happened a few times.
There I am trying to get a Mutant Rancor sample. Mask scent is up... crawling that last 45m... creeping... creeping.... all of a sudden he starts running at me! I'm thinkin', "I'm boned, I'm boned!", but he doens't attack, and I manage to stand up & hit my /sample button just as he comes into range!
Man, I don't know if my heart can take many more psych-out zerg rushes by these guys...
I never crawl, I just/prone /maskscent /stand/target x34 /mount
Drive really fast within 15m of the Enraged Rancor Bull - /dismount /sampledna /target x34 /mount
...and wait until the sampling is finished.
If he goes aggro I just drive away
If not I try again
Much faster
Very efficient
No dying

I thought they had done away with 'drive by' sampling to make it more interesting for us to perform our work. I bet they put a check at the end of the sample process to make sure you are still "standing". That'll screw me up cause I sample prone. As long as you are crawling when you start sampling, you can stay prone the whole time yer getting dna.
I /sampledna;/sit and don't have problems. I think I get better samples off wild critters when I'm both not moving and scent masked, though. If I'm trying to get AA samples to lower generational clones, I make sure I'm not masked and walk around as I'm doing it. I seem to get more AA samples that way, even though I'm doing it off deeds in my inventory. It's annoying, though.
And since I refuse to have to take notes and do up statistics, asthat is Not Fun™for me,I have no data to back this up. So it could be all in my head.

You can make this shorter by simply adding the name of your vehicle to the end of the mount command with a space...like this: "/mount X34 LandSpeeder". No targeting involved.
This work like a charm...only time I die useing this method is if I get hit hard enough to knock me out of my ride ![]()
I run or ride. I never walk. And to answer the *original* post, yes. This happens to me all the time. I'll be masked and walk into a den of vipers and three will run up to me for no apparent reason. Happens all the time.
