Thread: Mutant Rancor DNA...need tips on getting it!
I have been a master Bio-engineer for several days now and am looking for the best possible dna I can get from a creature. I heard that mutant rancors were the highest lvl creature that you can sample dna from, but everytime i try to sample them, I fail. Are mutant rancors really to big to be sampling, does anyone have any tips for me. All help is appreciated, I love this profession.
Not sure why everyone is having so much trouble. I seem to have no trouble sampling Mutant Rancors. I always get buffed by a Master Doc and bring at least a crate of Muon Gold, plus Food and Drink for my mind (to offset the Muon downers). Also, my Focus, Willpower and Mind stats are higher than what most people have them set at and I am Zabrak (which is suppose to have better mind recovery - not sure if that has anything to do with it).
I can usually buzz out to them and sample for 1 hour and get10-12 samples and buzz back to the outpost.
Also, one key is to sample one creature, either it fails or success, and move to a different creature, keep switching from Mutant to Mutant.I have seen less aggros since switching to a new creature after each sample.
Well there is a nice post on this at vault network. First there is a theory (i havent verified it) that the higher your mind is, the better your success rate at sampling is. I have 800 mind and get about 10% success rates on them. Next if you can actually get into range, sample them in rotation, IE one from the one on your left, then one sample from the one on the right,.... repetitive sampling on one creature tends to flag awareness quicker. There are no guarantees, but you will see a difference.
The technique posted at VN was a doctor strategy, where you come in stoked up on spice, chef food, and doctor buffs, on foot, and deliberately agg the nest and flee 200m then heal until it breaks off then sample it and get back to the nest with stealth off. It doesnt work well for me. I find if I go back after one that broke off, he will reagg. Also when you agitate the nest, they all beat on each other and it takes at least 10+ minutes for it to end.
You can not speeder sample unless you are Ranger Rick with a nice cammo kit, and even then I bet you lose scent fast. What seems to work for me is to break out a pet and put it on guard, then walk to 70m from the closest. Then go prone and crawl to 64 (where you break scent usually). Freeze and wait to rescent , then crawl in. When you get within 15m, tell your pet to follow the one you will sample, then sample. Do not run when you are close, walk (shift plus run). If it aggs, spam peace and move out, letting pet pick up agg. Move out to about 50m from it, then tellpet to follow and keep moving til it quits. Lather, rinse repeat.
I get about 9 samples for about 2hrs work. Yes it is a pain. The doctor claimed he got around 170 samples in 7hrs.
1) Turn peace on, "/peace", always before sampling. I use an alias for this
This will stop you from auto-retaliating the mob and not cause his friends to aggro.
1) Turn peace on, "/peace", always before sampling. Then there will be no need to spam peace when aggroed and it will stop you from auto-retaliating on the mob and not cause his friends to aggro.
2) dancer/musician buffs when you can for mind/willpower/focus. An 8 minute buff from a Master Dancer/Musician will last you upwards of 2 hrs. Keep the food + muon always on hand. I just have the good fortune to play this as a second account and am always fully buffed. Doc buffs go without question.
3) Ranger skills have helped a lot, esp. tracking.
4) Maskscent/Camo clothes.
5) If you don't have sampling IV or are Master BE. Don't complain about the aggro...)
6) If fully buffed wear armor .. it helps you live. If you dont have buffs them make and armor on/off macro and be prepared to "Armor On" once aggroed. It will save your life.
7) Keep you're speeder nearby *wink* for the quick get away. With /peace on the mob will only follow you for about 100m before giving up and none of his friends will join in.
With these tips and those provided by others you will not die! Worse case you get diseased... and then pray you have Doc friend nearby otherwise you'll end up incap dancing..)
