Thread: Experimentation

I havetwo questions that I hope you all might be able to shed some light on. When I experiment, it only offers me the option to run a single Experiment on a weapon (I am a weaponsmith) I hear about people running up to 5 experminents. Is anyone aware of why I only get one? (Is it a race issue? I am Bothian)

Also, I ran some experiments this weekend on DL44 pistols. I was experimenting with Damage and I got a success, yet the % in the damage area actually went DOWN. I didn't happen to notice if the actual damage improved, however, so I can't be sure. It actually happened a few times, where I was experimenting with parts as I was building them and showing success, but the %s were not improving.

Any thoughts?

As you gain more skill in an area, more experimentation points become available. Depending on the materials you use, you can get some pretty significant jumps with a little trial and error. I have seen the same thing you describe, but only on certain items like Bone Armor Segments, so I don't bother with experimenting on those and just turn them out as is. I haven't seen a noticeable impact either way when using components on the finished product.

One area that Experimentation does help though is it increases the complexity of whatever you are crafting and that in turn increases the XP you get from building the item.

experiment isn't really useful for us architects ... and we got a whole skill tree that only give bonuses in experimentation ..

Man we really need something to happen when we experminet except for plainly not caring about the outcome. Devs please do something about this to improve the market. We need it! I really think it would help our market as well. Right now were banking on a set price. Think of how much that would change if all of a sudden we could sell "low maintenence houses", or if we could get a color on success to spruce up the landscape. Something, anything, just make it be worth taking the time to dit and also to go up the experimentation tree for a reason instead of it just being an afterthought neccessary for master.

I will say this politely once. and only once.

I am SICK of successes lowering the quality of the armor I make when I experiment. That is a partial failure, not a 'great success'.

I am also SICK of seeing, on a success, an increase in ONE stat, to see a DECREASE in one or MORE stats at the same time.

Thank you for your time.

Aparently, once wasn't enough. So here we go again.

Today, I'm happily crafting away at my chitin for another round, while my factory is curning out some really nice base 2 chitin panels for me, and ... lo - my experiments are failing left and right. and up and down. and back and forth. and in and out.. and every direction you can name.

In40 experiments, on both chitin and fiberplast panels, I got 3 successes - which changed NO stats at all, 1 amazing success, which changed the resist i worked on 1%. AND 36 FAILURES. Yes folks, you read that right. 36 failures. This is not me, this is not my resources. I hunt all over the universe for better than average stuff, and I dont make junk. (BTW, i'm on Starsider, this may not be affecting all servers, who knows).

I confirmed this with a tailor friend today, his experiments are way off today too.

Atm, there is ZERO reason for me to craft anything, as I am ruining (in my opinion) every piece of armor i create. This is not acceptable.

Anyone else having this problem? Please speak up.

Im on starsider as well. Last night I went out and harvested alot of high quality hides and bones. That fixed my problem perfectly. I also have very high quality steel and inert petro, as well as master crafted panels from tailors. Its the resources that seem to determine the failure rate. Thats atleast what ive found.

What level experimentation are you?

Trust me, its not my materials. I'm tech 1, and using base quality 2 panels, with single digit encumberances I create from factory crates. All my resources are the best I can find, no matter the world. (not gonna give away secrets hehe). I have NEVER had failure rates like this before today's patch. Usually,1 or 2 every 5-6 pieces of armor. NOT 36 OUT OF 40!!

(for those that are not familiar with base 1/2/3 quality, base 1 is average. base 2 is above average, reduces damge incoming, base 3 is 'far superior')

Tech 1? Thats why you are failing so much. Go up the tech tree. It really helps out. Expermentation 1 hardly does ANYTHING to your armor, but you start to feel the better quality at 2. In fact, i strongly recommend going up the tech tree before advancing in anything else. I would go to tech 3 atleast before getting any other armorsmithing skills. Tech is the best tree to go up first IMO. I highly suggest it.

i know what it's like... when my ex smith was making my suit of armour in front of me last night... first piece was a crit failure.. i didn't want all those quality hides and bones wasted for nothing

i'd spent a lot of time and money getting the resources for that... and he wasn't happy really with the overall results.. (thought he'd had too many failures)i was very pleased..

luck.. pure and simple.. materials will only get you so far. even the tech tree (which he'd mastered) will only do a little for you too...

it's a bugger.. but it seems to be like a roll of the dice..
