Thread: Our profession is in danger

Looks like technology will be taking over.

Since the introduction of vehicles I haven't seen anyone using pet mounts anymore unless their vehicle got blow up. Point being: Make pets more usefull in some way: eg:give them a burst run option, the running will drain their action.

Soon there will be better combat droids in game, but who will be using pets then if they an have a droid that shoots from a certain range.

The problem is that i am not against droids, it is star wars after all!!!

But since the pet nerf and after this being brought in, will selling and making pets will be a good profession?

(concidering that this profession is still rather bugged, and in many ways useless since we have no milk and stuff liek that, and too have a vendor we need business 3 which takes about 25 skill points away whila another craafter is already artisan so for him it takes about 12 skill points??)

I think our future is doomed!!

The pets have slowed down because everyone has one.

Do people still use them? I do. When I am surveying and get close a mount works much better.

In addition, you can bring up a pet in a friends house not a vehicle.

In addition, when I am scanning for certian creatures, kill, scan, kill, a mount can work better.

Sales? Never been better.

I just sold my Brakenset with armor and Kinetic for 150k. I need to replace him.

Yeah i dont think we are in danger. We just have to adjust to things as they come at us. Im about ready to sell custom pets myself. And I know as soon as i do. Im looking at a ton of business when i do

Technology is supposed to be taking over, thats what the SW universe is like. The pets though will always be needed as long as there is a CH profession. Non-ch sales will trail off into obscurity but one of the nice perks is that droids can't have special moves in the same sense as animals. Also remember that eventually mounts are going to be allowed to have armor, essentially what your going to see is that mounts return as an ideal hunting kind of transport.

I don't expect to see them put garages on Endor or Yavin, so mounts might stay popular there (though they made vehicles so cheap, resource-wise, that you can run around with crates of them). But you are correct that the new droids combined with the problems that so many people have had with their bugged non-ch pets will pretty much kill the cl10 market.

That's why we really need to get the BE dev turned toward tissues. Pets were a passing fancy inspired by bad game design that turned this into Pet Wars, but buffing tissues will always be in demand.

Pets do have a 'burst' run command. Its /gallop or /gal

Advantage of pets:
- They can fight back
- They don't require as much "upkeep"
- They can be unique looking and named accordingly

Disadvantage:
- Slower than vehicles

I only use vehicles when I need to get to someplace fast, otherwise I use my mount.

They're going to be making the cool-down time between burst runs shorter it seems, the current timer is still from when you were allowed to attack while galloping. Now that you cannot there's no reason not to have rapid cool-down times and extended periods of running. What they REALLY need though is mounts acting as additional storage, just look at the saddles and you can see there's bags and such on there. So give each mount a minimum of 20 units of storage space. The larger 'beasts of burden' can be allowed more capacity as an extra perk for their slower movement. Animals in the SW universe are usually used for either combat or as beasts or burden anyway, actual travelling from A to B has always been done via vehicles.

Here's my personal take. I'm not sure if others are experiencing the same thing as I am.

I can't tell you how many BEs I've contacted via email (read: no tells) for a custom order, only to be largely ignored or put off. No, I am not looking for the uber pet either - just something decent with a particular skin. Yes, I realize you BEs are busy trying to figure out the right non CH template thing (among others), but if anyone is having the same troubles I am I can see why they'll be going the combat droid route.

I know I will be. I have no choice.

The reason why your ignored or told to look elsewhere is because custom orders aren't like slapping together some resources to get the result. There's a huge amount of effort needed to create custom orders and alot of the time I simply settle for blending two or three species together into a first gen clone and sell it off. Indeed droids will be alot easier to make and produce because they don't require nearly as much knowledge to produce or to gather the resources plus they can be mass produced.

It's people who continually pester us for custom orders which really p*ss me off, if they don't have the patience to allow a bio-engineer the time to work their magic and get exactly what the customer wanted then as far as I'm concerned they can go bother someone else.. i don't need the money or the headache from customers like that.

Yeah, I think there is a large chasm between what many CH'ers think is reasonable, and what is practical. I try to explain why I don't make non-CH pets, or why I can't make a particular animal (sorry, I don't do ranged attacks for pets). I've had success attempting to explain the difficulties to many potential customers.... only a few jerks out in my experience.

I've had a lot of luck combining cu pa and scyk DNA to make a non-creature handler pet with medium poison and a ranged attack. When I get an order for a "custom" pet I reply with the animals I have in stock. If they are interested in something Ihave in stock, great. If they aren't, they either have to wait or they can shop elsewhere.

I've gone from being widely ignored to being sought out by people I've never heard of before. Business is booming for me and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The profession is going back to the sort of "status quo" it was before mount and before the big changes to the clone system. That is to say, you sell an awful lot of pet stims, tissues, and the occasional pet.

I use my mount more then my speeder.

The speeder comes in handy only when I'm traveling and don't want to spend the credits or looking for something to tame.

My mount is out far more because it and my 2 BE'd Razor cats = cl 70

its more handy to just yell mush and have my mount come to me then remembering where I parked it after chasing a baby 200m+

and just about every credit I have has gone to a BE either for pets or for crates of pet stims which are in high demand but low supply
