Thread: pet price calculator for BioEngineers
my hubby has programmed a pet price calculator, based on some rules I found to be adequate. Maybe this tool could be of interest for you, too. Have a look at:
http://www.mibran.de.vu
It is written in Java and has been tested on Windows systems yet.
Feel free to post comments or ideas.

Either way if everyone starts using this it would be cool! I know I am going to use it to get an Idea of the price range I should set my prices too!
Tell your husband very nice job and thank you!

Hi,
I tried the calculator and I must say, that I agree with the previous poster and that he did a very good job. It's very easy to use and install.
However, I actually think the price is coming out a little low, at least for high end creatures. I inputted some nice stats for a level 69 creature that hit 0.57, attack speed 1.98, did over 600 damage with 13.5K Health and 12K for Action and Mind with knockdown and intimidate as specials and high resists and the price was only $116K. I know personally if I made a creature like this I'd be charging at least 200K or 300K and perhaps a little more.
Nonetheless I feel it's a nice job on the calculator. I am just hoping for a formula or calculator that will price such a creature above at a little higher rate, since making something like that would for me take a lot of work and time. I am able to get 500+ damage but rarely anything in the 600+ range.
Hehehe I guess I am not up with the times! But guys I must say come on!!
I was Master Bio Eng at the start of SWG and haven't played for months and started a new character and am almost a Master Bio Eng again.
When I was Master last time a level 50 Rancor was about 50k and nothing much has really changed as far as how hard the creatures are to make. If anything it is easier now to make good creatures now with the new cloning system. So I guess I don't understand how people are selling Creatures for higher than 200k. I guess I haven't played in awhile and don't know what to expect yet. I don't want our profession to become like Weaponsmith and stuff selling Krayt FWG5's for 4 million credits and such. I mean I love millions of credits as much as the next guy but I would rather make everyones playing experience fun and a good time.
Thanks,
Hulceantor
Originally, cloning animals was simply a matter of sampling any animal and throwing the dna in a template and you'd get a creature as the previous poster said. Now there are more variables involved like resists and specials and it's not just about throwing any dna into a template anymore. A lot more work and thought has to go into what you will be using as this will greatly affect the final creature.

Pricing calculators are interesting general guides, nothing more.
A lot has changed. I have said this before - I am not in this to gouge people but I am a capitalist. The amout I charge for a pet is directly correlated to how hard it is to make.
If someone wants a CL45-50ish pet with Bark Mite Burrower resists, light armor and doesn't care about specials, then I will go to endor (8k credits or so round trip), find the BMBs, sample the dna, slap it together and voila, CL48 pet with 60% kinetic 40% energy 80 heat, elec, acid, etc. I'll charge them 50k for this usually (100k if they tick me off).
Now, however, let's say they want it *exactly* CL47. And they want Strong Poison/Intimidate as the Specials. And they want specific HAM. And they want specific secondary resists like >70% heat. And they want damage to be at least X. You get my point.
In this latter scenario, we're talking about multigenerational cloning that can blow up and go poof. We're talking about trips (sometimes) to multiple planets, and we have to use fine and precise control over the crafting process to ensure we deliver on the expected result.
Folks, this is *way* harder than surveying for some uber steel and plopping an elite FWG5 schematic in a factory.
I choose to charge more for these complex pets or not do them. You don't have to. That's whats beautiful about capitalism. Yeah, $200kis way too much to pay for a crap pet that can be slapped together from a "recipe" from the forums by someone who has trouble even following basic directions. But, I argue, discerning buyers know quality and workmanship (such as it exists in a video game) and are willing to pay accordingly.
Cheers-
I wrote up an Excel spreadsheet to calculate my creature prices, giving me the ability to adjust as needed. Right now I'm using a fairly complex system which considers the HAM values, armor, specials, resists, speed, hit and damage, and whether or not the creature has a ranged attack.
After the patch, when the CLs will supposedly be adjusted properly, I'll probably go back to using a CL-based pricing mechanism (it's much easier). But for now, with the CLs so out of whack with the creature's actual abilities, I feel the abilities need to be the gating factor.
