Thread: Considering starting a BE Alt

Hey all. I have been looking through all the posts here, and would like some opinions on this. I have always considered the BE profession to be pretty cool. I like crafting to a certain extent, but I'm not a fan of finding all the uber resources and whatnot. That's why I enjoy Architect right now, quality doesn't matter on houses and factories. I also really love the Scout profession, but couldn't continue down the Ranger path until they fix it.

So, I have been thinking about starting a BE alt. I can grind, that's not a problem. But a few things I want to know first:

1. Is it fun even when you're not a MBE?

2. Can I make decent money as non-MBE and MBE?

3. Do you honestly sell your pets a lot?

As you can see, there are two main concerns of mine. Fun then money, and moreso fun. I can make money with my main character now by farming creds on Dant real quick, so money isn't much of an issue.

What do you all think? Please keep in mind that I LOVE the Scout profession and I also greatly enjoy crafting, and I'm doing it for fun only.

I'd like to add that I am not doing this to compliment any current skill sets or guild members, although the guild chef would enjoy it a bit.

That is not my goal. My goal is to keep my main how I have him, and also get into the BE profession to have some fun.

Fun is the big thing here.

Let me start by saying that BE is a great profession. I've only been Master for about a month, but with the help from the FAQ and the guys and girls on this board I am already enjoying a good measure of success. I had a lot of fun climbing through the skill tree for dna sampling, as far as the other branches... it's a grind like everything else. As far as making money while not a MBE, yes, you can sell pets. when you're low in the BE skill trees sell your stuff on the bazaar as well as sell anything you screw up the experimentation on when you're playing around with recipies. However, I wouldn't recommend making tissues until you're master since you'll need as many experimentation points as possible to be competitive.

As I said, I have only been MBE for a month. However, I advertised for one day on the trade boards and I am so swamped that I can't keep up. I need to find multiple rangers to help me gather all the maet I need. I stand to make about 5 million this week alone just on food additives. As far as selling pets... I put up 32 pets last week on my little vendor and I only have 3 left. Level 10 pets are in great demand and if you can make good levek 20-25 pets and good level 30-39 pets, people will snatch them up really fast. Hope this helps answer your questions...

Hey man, I'm on Intrepid too!

I probably wouldn't be a big-time crafter or anything, but I miss my scout skills and I want to give it a try. Again, fun is gonna be my main focus on this.

Well, should I fluff this up and not get one stared or should I give you the god's honest truth and get completely ripped apart? I like getting ripped apart.

1. Is it fun even when you're not a MBE?

a) Bugs in BE, which will most likely not get fixed until way after JTL, are annoying as hell. Since the nerf of CH the majority of pets you will make and sell will be CL10 and below. But since the controvercial invalidity "fix" was added to the game there will be a chance that every CL10 pet you make that pushes the boundaries (What good are BE pets if they don't push the wild equiv. boundaries) will go invalid once tamed. Even with a refund, your customer has wasted a lot of time an energy, so much so that they will completely lose faith in BEd pets and you.

b) Expect to play the meat game with the rest of the Chefs and Docs. BSNs (see question #2) require 20k meat for a full run. Lately I have been paying 30 to 50cpu for these meats. So unless you have a dedicated hunting party or plan on hunting your meats all yourself, expect to be spending a lot.

2. Can I make decent money as non-MBE and MBE?

The only way to make money as a non-MBE is to grind out PEt Stims and sell them on the Bazaar. The standard price is Power * Charges /10. To do this you are going have to have to start collecting those fun Doc resources, Lok Wild Wheat, Dant Berry Fruit, Talus Fungus (BE resource), Tat Fiberplast, Talus Water Vapor, Class 4 LPF, and Herb Meat. With so/so resources you should be getting about 25/800 on your Stim Bs which should sell at Dant Mining for about 2000. If you want to make Stim Cs then expect to hunt a lot of Dath Insect meat. Stim Ds will bring you good money but with the dwindling CH population and boredom of collecting Fish, I don't think it's worth it.

At Master BE the good money will come from making Broad Spectrum Nutrients and Intelligent Nano-Nutrients. But like I said above, expect to spend a lot of time or money collecting meat and flora resources. To make 1000 it takes 60k flora/20k meat and 90k Flora/20k meat respectably

3. Do you honestly sell your pets a lot?

I have had a bunch of reallynice pets on my vendor for 2 months now.

BE is afrustrating profession, but if your only doing it for fun and can handle the frustration you will have then I'd say go for it. It will take a while to get there if you don't plan on grinding, but personally I think it's well worth it. Maybe sometime in the future we'll see more worth to pets and thus pet stims. Maybe they will fix tissues so that all the food benefits don't come from only one line of tissues. But it will be some time before that happens because the Devs only care about PvP.

Well, I've decided to do BE to go with Tailor on one of my Chars. It looks alot of fun and with the planned combat rebalance I have a feeling that CH may well become FOTM sometime soon. If that does happen then demand for pets will increase....

As with all crafting professions, don't start it until you've got some money in the bank to fund your startup.
