In the Creature Handler Forum there is an idea being bounced around again about Creature structures. The main use of these structures would to hold, breed, milk, or gather eggs. There is even an idea for a structure that would hold and breed aquatic type creatures for harvest. This idea would involve support of and by other professions that could be impacted by it such and Chef, Bio-Engineer, and Architect. Chef and Bio-Engineer would be impacted since they would be able to have a ready supply of certain components that are now “very” inconvenient to obtain. Architect would be involved due to the creation of new structure schematics being added to their skill set. I wanted to get your opinions on the validity and practicality of this idea and encourage posting of your replies and ideas on the related forums.

Errm... someone forgot to mention Scout and Ranger in there
Yes - the idea is nice and would benefit Chefs and BEs among others, but it would take something away from Scout/Ranger so I personally would not favour it.
No - I'm not a Scout (apart from the BE/Maskscent reqs.) but I think their profession (and Ranger) have been crapped on enough for one lifetime.
I'd like to see a faster way of getting those resources that involved Scout skills, and ultimately Ranger skills, in a meaningful way.
This problem mainly arose (I've been told) because SOE canned a profession idea for something like a 'Farmer' during or just before Beta. Anyone else remember reading about that?
Hence I can't support the 'creature farming' idea...

I would simply cert the various levels of harvesters throughout the scout and ranger lines. This will never happen though b/c it requires more effort than the Devs are interested in investing in (nominally) working systems. We'll all have moved on to other mmorpg's before the devs get around to something like this.

Anyone with Scout skills can harvest meat, hide, bone, eggs, fish, and shellfish. The higher you are the more you yield. Right now the markets for the fish, eggs, and shellfish are so crazy that something needs to be done. Even the Developers have mentioned this. I disagree about this hurting the Ranger profession. I have two toons that are Ranger/Creature Handlers and I see no threat to me as a Ranger at all. My ability to make money in the game as a Ranger is wide as the Montana sky, but my options for commerce as a Handler are dwindling. This would bring a multifold benefit not only to Me as a Handler but to other fields and the game over all.

I read those thereads and parcipated in their original state, as a BE, I think a Fish Hatchery would be of more use. Or maybe just replace fish with Force Crystals or Alderainian Flora, you know stuff that is more common than fish.

Scouting has a line called "hunting" at that is all about the ability to harvest organic resources. Ranger is the advanced class that extends that line. So when you talk about new ways to harvest, and new abilities to extract creature resources you really should confine that talk to scouts and rangers, because that is where that skill line lives. And creating competing methods to do the same thing (gather creature resources) certainly does hurt those two classes.

Keladin called about fishing at fanfest and I think his intention was just to make fishing more attractive to do. If they make it more fun, and more benefitial, then more people will want to do it.
