Thread: Strong poison/disease recipe problems

I've spent the day trying this recipe out from the "Perfect Pet" thread:
Strong Poison/Strong Disease (Good if you are feeling lucky)
Gen 1: Boar Wolf/Large Cave Beetle/Arachne Warrior/Merek Death's Head/Merek Death's Head
According to Preloaded, I should be getting a level 14-17 creature. For some reason though, I consistently get in the 21-23 range. And that is without using any experimentation points. Also, what is "breaking the armor threashold?" Do I need to keep fortitude or hardiness under a certain level?
Also, does the type of pet I make for a 1st gen make any difference?
On a positive note, I haven't had any problems getting the specials to stick.
