Thread: What other profession's fit well with BE?

I would like to hear from various BE's on what their other profession is and why they like it. Currently I am exclusively PvE currently.

I have been slowly working toward master BE since release. I took some time off and came back about 2 months ago. Currently I am 1/3/4/1 in the BE tree, working toward master ever so slowly. I really like the BE profession. My problem is I don't know what to compliment it with.

My char currently is:

  • Master Scout

  • Ranger 1/0/3/1 (like the area track)

  • BE 1/3/4/1

  • Brawler 4/0/0/0 (working toward TKA to harvest meat)

  • Artisan 1/0/0/3(I enjoy getting my ownflora

  • novice Creature Handler 0/0/0/1 (this may be my long term combat ability)

Ilove the area track/creature harvest skills in the ranger line, as well as the terrain negotiation (larger camps are nice too). I like Artisan because I like to place my own flora harvesters, and survey for resources as I need them. I recently dropped novice pistoleer and am working on TKA novice so I have some combat ability (to put those scout/ranger bonuses to good use). I may drop TKA once I harvest enough wild meat to finish grinding BE. My goal was to hit master BE / master CH and Ranger at 0/0/3/0. I hate however giving up my survey/harvester line in Artisan and MBE/MCH leaves me zero combat ability. Notice that leaves me no points to have a vendor either.

As a novice CH, my pets seem next to useless. They take lots of dmg and take forever to heal. Every new pet I try to make/tame takes 10 days to get to a point where it's useful, after which it's basically obsolete. (I can't imagine the outcry if people had to wait ten days touse a "real" weapon)While I can make my own pet stims, with only 2 points in BE experiment they don't do much good yet. I can't see putting the time in to master CH is this is how it's going to be. Can I survive and do worthwhile creature hunting with MBE/MCH? To me BE and CH just seem to go well together. At first I had no interest in CH, but then I thought what good is it to make pets if I have no idea what works/doesn’t work in the field? And who wants to craft chef/tailor additives all day?

Maybe it's just me, but it seems with MBE there just are not enough points to be effective anywhere else. I was looking over the chef profession (and dropping BE) and it looks pretty tempting, but the thought of grinding out all that crafting sickens me.

So please, tell me what you experts/long itme MBE'shave found that makes a good fit? I am kind of an explorer/hunter type person, not into big loot or PvP. I like to pick spots on the planets where no other person can be found for miles and miles, do a little hunting, whip out my crafting droid and play with some DNA samples, admire all the fine creatures there are to see, maybe do a little fishing. I'd like to be able to go after big game when I am in the mood, or maybe just set up a camp in a rancor spawn area and do a little crafting. I enjoy finding and (when I am not grinding) selling quality flora/meat resources.

I look forward some different points of view.

If you're interested in making pets, by far the most effective use of points would be MBE/MCH Ranger tracking 3, with tracking and MCH you should be able to find either through missions or tracking any creature you need to sample. Although any template will work, go with whats fun for you
there are many chef/BE's and Tailor/BE's as well as BE+ combat profession.

My best advice would be to do whatever you enjoy most.

No real advice other than do what's fun for ya. Creature harvesting skills will of course be useless to you if you're a BE/ranger because you won't have enough skill points left to be able to kill anything, lol but tracking and cammo could be awesome for collecting dna. Mostly just wanted to comment on the 1/3/4/1 BE thing. You can always tell the difference between a "grinder" and a "player" by this. You're obviously the latter, congrats and hope you have fun

I got tkm/mbe. Great for hunting (buffs is a must tho), rancor hunting (it hasn't really got anything with BE to do but it's a great source of income). While I'm out hunting I can take my own dna samples and eggs etc etc. There's still enough skillpoints for novice artisan and surveying 2 .

A better combo I think would be carbineer/ch/be. If you got tanking pets then you're in no need of heavy armor, which means you can spray specials like there's no tomorrow ( if you've got some food maybe and almost all stats migrated to second stats).. No surveying skills, but I've made a serious attempt to live without them. In fact, I loved it. No more running around and surveying. Just ask a newbie surveyor to make it. They'll do it with pleasure for 20k.

BE/merchant could be good to. It would be easier to sell your pets (and stims) . A merchant nerf is around the corner tho

how about BE/TKM?

that way if a creature doesn't like you sticking a needle in them, you can always kill them lol

Here is what I'm planning...

Scout 4040
Medic 0004
Master BE

Artisan 0044
Merchant 3003

Brawler 0004
Pikeman 0000

This leaves just 7 points for Pikeman which means 1 tier one box and 2 leftover points. I chose a melee profession with the idea that I was already going to be in close quaters (sampling DNA) with a creature, so I wanted to be able to hit the creature if it aggro'ed. Rifleman would be the opposite and be bad because of the range.

Now, in my case I have a second character, so I might just drop the exploration line in scout to free up 14 more points for Pikeman, or I might drop Brawler/Pikeman all togheter in favor of master mechant.

This would leave my BE with no combat.

My second character will be master scout, master creature handler, and at least 00040 ranger (harvesting bonus) and some level of rifleman (probably conceal shot anyway). His job will be to get all the meat and will allow me to play with the cool pets I make with the BE.

That's that I'm thinking about...

Im master be (mastered tonight), master swordsman, scout 2-0-4-0, medic 2-0-0-4, artisian 0-0-3-0, not sure how it will work out but im hoping for the best. with swordsman agroing critters isnt a problem but im woried about how well dna sampling will be with only two box's of exploration.

well you really need to choose what kind of specialization you want....you cant have scout, combat, AND artisan skills enough to make it worthwhile. if you want to be a crafter, tissue-centeredBE, go BE/Tailor or BE/Chef. If you want to be a hunter BE, go BE with any elite combat prof; TKA SM and Pistol are what I'd suggest, given you're going to be in close range a lot, and they're all decent professions. Combat profs really dont gain anything from BE, and vice versa, but it makes you a well-rounded char. If you want a pure field explorer scientist and pet-centered BE, BE/Ranger/MCH is the way to go there.

I'm a master BE and plan on Mastering Pistoleer, since pistols are okay for when you have a creature you're sampling at close range agro on you or if you do decide to do Some PvP you can still hang back and take some pot shots from range.

My plans for my end template are Artisan 0031, Marksman 0400, Scout 3040, Medic 0104, Master BE, Master pistoleer. This template also allows for surveying and ruinning a bulky vendor, even though most of my income is through special orders.

well, i have been thinking about this lately. i was thinking about mastering some kind of combat profession. i'm already a novice pistoleer, but then recently i inadvertantly got 1,1,1,1 in CH and realized i can now handle lv 20 pets. so i made some pretty decent pets for myself(9K-H,8k-A,7k-M, with strong poison), and i figured if i go ahead and go for 1,1,1,3 in CH then i can have two pets out and once, and it won't really be necessary for me to master pistoleer or marksman. the reason i wanted to do that was so i could harvest my own resources. meat is so hard to find. so i think i'm going to stick with that and then master Scout instead, for the better mask scent and harvasting skills. but i also want to get to at least business 4, so i can have a vendor. but i don't think i'll have enough skill points for that, in which case maybe i'll just stick to 1,1,1,1 in CH and make myself an uber pet or something for fighting.
