Thread: Entertaining the option to change servers

I had a conversation with arthurdent the other night. We're on the same server and he was telling me about how awesome the potential fora BE market exists on wanderhome.I started a quickie toon there to check the market and I'd have to say thereare very few BE's worth their salt on that server.

The discussion covered the future (but not current) ability to transfer a character. I immediately gave it a thought. Ever since the chef revamp, BE has been borked by FOTM asshats who seriously screwed the market for the other serious BE's (on Bria). Business has gone way down (due to FOTM anda huge exodus over the combat balance pushback)and the only thing keeping me around is the possible secret research data. The prices finally began to fall for food,in some cases to a point that making tissues will return a financial loss if I produce them. Many chefs either have BE as the secondary prof or they have alts (or guildies) that are MBE. This is all fine and dandy, but this has forced me out of the additive market. Most Briachefs don't actually want to**pay** for the items that make their products worth buying (damned gypsies). In some cases, they don't even buy their flora or harvesters since their guild will provide it to them in exchange for food.

So, when the transfer came live, I was about to do the deed until I read that NOTHING in the datapad, bank (millions ofcredits), orinventory will transfer with my toon. Seeing as how aMBE/Ranger 0030/Merchant 4004 can't do lair missions to make good credits (there's no way I'm going to do artisan missions, yuck), Idetermined that transferring over to wanderhome won't happen. 'I payed $30 for thischaracter transfer and all I got were these crappy boxers'.

I was playing with the future possibility of dropping BE for shipwright. I, however, concluded that this future expansion will be yet another chef profession where the cheapest, crappiest ships will cost millions (like kaadu mounts originally cost 100k, x34 speeders cost 150k, and brandy600k/crate). I'd be one lovablelittle snowflake on a mountain full of snow in shipwrights. So, I've reduced myself to collecting what mineral I can gather so it can be donated to the virtuous guildie in HERO who'lllevel shipwright.Maybe then I won't go broke buying an xwing.

So looking at my options, changing servers won't be fun at all. Changing to another crafting prof won't be an option since I bump into 15 otherarmorsmith/weaponsmiths for every 10m I travel.I can keep BE, but the only market that keeps me interested is a small CH pet market, and a slightly bigger non-CH pet market. Tailor tissues do 'okay' in sales, but the egg/milk issue is a cliche. I don't craft pet stims anymore since it took months for my first batch to sell (and it was at a grand opening discount too). Perhaps I could create a new toon on wanderhome as a tkm/BE, then later BE/ranger/merchant like it is now. We'll see. I would alsohate to leave my dwindling group of friendseven thoughno one really sticks with this game anymore. And I can't transfer my main accountbecause they won't transfer characters who've opened a slot. **sigh**

Folks, don't get me wrong. I love the BE profession, and that is why I'm doing it. I don't do the profession for the credits (even though it is a nice perk to be able to pay for my combat toon). However, if my wares don't sell, what's the use of making more merchandise? The most interesting aspect of it presently is making lvl10 tanks with the voritor/spider recipe. But after last few nights, I'm beginning to lose that feeling of fun. Out of 15 crafting sessions, 9 critical failures... Yeah.

Seems the deal with transfers is this: players want to transfer characters but the devs don't want to let them because it's a lot of work. But players really want to transfer. And the devs really don't want to let them because it really is a lot of work. But the players really really want to do it so the devs say OK you can but we'll make it cost real money and we'll do it in such a way that you'd be better off creating a new character and paying your younger brother the $30 to grind it for you.

Doesn't seem to be much point transferring a character unless you have friends on the target server to give you some cash when you arrive.

On that note, I'd quite happily help you out if you chose to come to Ahazi. I'm turning down requests from chefs and tailors almost every day because I just don't have time to meet them. The demand is there even if the supply doesn't appear to be.

Yeah hehe. I, um, actually have 2 toons on ahazi that are there for reserve boredom. One is a dancer/armorsmith, and the other is a merchant/tailor/artisan/DE. But I rarely log in but to level. I wouldn't delete those toons to make room for my bria toons. I'm sticking with Bria anyway. I gave it some thought. And yesterday, just hours after this post, I had the most business in the day than i had in the last month. And I find that I"m actually more of a research scientist now more than anything. And I refill my vendors when need be. I went on TS2 last night. Made my toon a master tailor and went to my shop on Lok (since TS2 is a copy of bria), bought my own tailor tissues, and made BE clothing. HAHA

I still plan to leave, but it's mainly just a matter of talking to some friends about it and so forth. Starting over doesn't scare me in the slightest. Its just the sort of challenge that would breathe some life into the game for me, but I just can't stomach the grinding so it's a good solution.

I understand what you mean. However, I started Ned to be my combat toon's moneymaker. Missions suck and bore the hell out of me. So making pets are fun and yield an income. Sending Ned to another server would remove that advantage, and I'm not about to send $60 to the devs to do a copy/paste, and leave my friends behind. I came to realize that the BE market will slowly return to normalcy once all the asshats move on. I'll just ahve to practice the patience I had when I grinded BE for the third time.

I'm nolonger a BE, my brother is but I droped it a while back.

While I was a Chef / BE I decided that I could not live as a sole crafter, logging in,stocking a vendor, moving stuff between factories, you must know the feeling? I made a character over on Infinty, a TKA/Ranger Just so that I could try out some fighting, also a break from crafting.

What I found is that it was so hard to play without my friends. The people that I had played with since the start, people that had helped me and that I helped in return.I ended up droping Chef to keep BE, Even now I still have my character on Infinity just as a reminder of how much worse the game is without good friends. I don't think I could find a better guild on any server than the one I am in now. Even in the hard times I have stuck with them, even on days when I am the only one online.

I could never move to another server, even if they paid me to.

Hehe, no worries there, I love my kevm-made-pet-using-gun-bunnies I have there, so Wanderhome is off my list as far as places to consider moving to, even though it looks like a really good place to run a BE business.
