Thread: The Mount catch 22
So... I was one of the belivers that the mount roll out should not determine prices we sold clones for. Heck, a 5k Carrion Spat or Kaduu just seemed perfectly fine to me prior to the patch. So the night before, I updated my prices to 10k...which seemed reasonable for a clone (untrained). I logged out and was happy.
The next day, I log in and poof.... 60 clones gone... and not to 60 different people, but to about 5 different people.
I'm not sure if I should be pissed or happy. Its nice to get clear my inventory and nice to earn a bit of coin. But...it took a while to crank out those 60 (as you all know). And what kills me is that some MCH is going to tame it and make it a mount then sell it for 100k+. I feel somehow cheated and really can only blame myself, though I would really like to blame the current state of the economy on Eclipse.
I'll be cranking more clones out tonight/weekend...and adjusting the prices up simply because of the economics of keeping my inventory on my vendor and my RL time making the little suckers. (I wish we had a clone factory!).
In any event, how do you folks feel about the current economy and implementation of the Mounts?
Heh I had my HOUSEPETS vendor cleaned out for mounts.... only had 1 of each on there all priced at 25k to dissuade someone from buying them, but 1 person cleaned it off.
Money for nothing and your mounts for free.
With all due respect, I believe you should take this episode as a lesson in the Law of Supply and Demand and thier impact on prices.
You underprice and people will cleanout inventory.
You overprice and nothing moves.
If you set the perfect price, you will stand to make the most money. Note that supply and demand shifts and is never constant, so you have to make adjustments constantly.
Again with all due respect, I still shakes my head at people who 'insist on setting the market prices i.e. at X crper mount through their force of personality etc etc etc.' The market is bigger than all of us, learn to respect it or you will get bitten
.
So, if I were you, I should be glad for the lesson as well as some coin earned

In my server the CH are selling the mounts above 100 k creds. But this is a supply and demand problem and not a dev problem. At a player made economy the players actionsdetermine the demand and the supply.
If the players don't want waste their time to buy a bioengineered creature and later go to a CH to pay for the training to mount and if they prefer pay high prices to have the final product (a full grown trained mount), then they are creating the demand for 100 k priced mounts with the CH.
I buyed a kaadu one week ago from a BE per 1 k, then I get it trained to mount per 10 k. I don't paid 100 k for a mount,I paid a total 11 k and not the 100 k everyone is paying...
Maybe there's too much money at the economy, then the devs really need nerf the missions and create other money sinks. And before someone says that only the crafters have the big money,I saw a lot of combat guys buying mounts (above 100 k price) and IMHO they was getting a lot of money making the dantooine missions (and the endor missions before and the lok missions before...).
A kaadu 75k. That was I was seeing. Brack 180k. This is plan nuts. You can't sell at fare price without getting racked over the coals. So I am giving them to people in my PA and allaince. After all, they help me with meats and such anyway and I could care less about the creds. Thank you sony for another money sink and brining out more greed yet.
Heck I had 5 people ask me last night trying to get missions if my brack was for sale. It not even mounted since no skill for it and I be hanged if I was going to give another player 25k to tame my pet for a mount. That wil wait till I get with PA.
I've been selling mountable bio engineered pets on my vendors for 30k each. I've made a little over 1.4 million the past couple of days selling them. I won't sell for less so that a CH can tame and then sell for more on full growth. I am also a Master CH so I have a few growing in my datapad for full growth sales which I will probably double the price for them. I've only been a Master Bio/Master CH on the Gorath server for about a month with my second character and I believe it's time for the bio engineers to make a decent income just like the weaponsmiths or armorsmiths who sell their weapons for incredible amounts.
I'm not very pleased to find out today that they indeed have released "lesser" type non ch mountable pets into our worlds without allowing us as bio engineers the opprotunity to make them as well or at least lower the current mounts levels. I guess I'll be finding some of these newer creatures to grow in my datapad as well for future sales, but I'd rather have the option to make them myself and have them growing in someone elses datapad. I've seen other bio's on my server selling their mountable pets for less of course, but they're not only underselling me when they do that. They are selling themselves short as well. It takes alot of time to collect the higher quality dna from higher end creatures to make these mountable pets so I believe 30k is a very fair price and although I've had my share of people who sent me tells blasting me for my prices, (why I don't know as I don't send the weaponsmiths or armorsmiths on my server nasty messages for selling items too high) but I've also had my share of people thanking me for selling them their future mounts at a fair price.
I'm still having fun with the bio engineer at this time and as it's needed for the destruction of player owned bases that adds to the fun as well, but if we don't see the new clones and changes to our experimentation, etc. soon I may have to just give up as many of others have done for this profession. I'm afraid I'm only making a decent income now and we'll see this potential market disapear before our eyes when the vehicles arrive. Will we even have the new system in place by then Devs? I hope for our sake that we see it well before vehicles arrive in the game.
The exorbitant prices were not being paid simply for a 'kaadu' or 'dewback'. They were being paid for the most part for a 'fully grown, trained, and ready to ride now kaadu.' Heh heh. It's a completely-to-be-expected side effect of an economy that has seen large accumulations of credits by people who have nothing better to spend them on.
I too had my vendor completely cleaned out by one or two people. I don't mind if they are CHs (or even BEs) reselling them. I priced them at a rate that was good for me, and more power to them if they can make an additional profit of of them. ![]()
After a few days when the market is saturated, the prices of low level mounts will drop considerably, and the higher level mounts will come down as well, though I think we'll probably see an upgrading-the-current-mount spurt. Maybe. ![]()
